Story
A pilot stranded in the desert awakes one morning to see, standing before him, the most extraordinary little fellow. "Please," asks the stranger, "draw me a sheep." And the pilot realizes that when life's events are too difficult to understand, there is no choice but to succumb to their mysteries. He pulls out pencil and paper... And thus begins this wise and enchanting fable that, in teaching the secret of what is really important in life, has changed forever the world for its readers.

The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

If you are a French language learner looking to advance your reading skills and enhance your vocabulary, then this book will guide you through dialogue and story listening in your second language. We often are instructed with conventional activities in the form of worksheets, overlooking that words are 20 times more likely to be remembered if they are a part of a story (Bruner, 2017). Language learners retain more in the context of a story and become accustomed to the natural syntax of that language.

Magique / Magic
My very favorite thing to listen to when I was little: my 33 of Le Petit Prince read by the prominent theater actors such as Jean Dessailly, Suzanne Flon of yesteryears. This gift from my grandparents kept on giving so beautiful the spell this album casted. I became so attached to the story and the feeling emanating from it, that I always had a copy regardless of the various geographic moves.
As soon as I became a mother 16 year ago, finding an audible book to pass on the Magic I so celebrated to my son became a quest. Each time major disappointment.
FINALLY : here it is: I already fell into the spell of the beautiful diction and tone of Bernard Giraudeau a prolific actor both on stage and screens at my first listen of the previewing sample.
Do yourself a favor, stop everything, find your cozy spot and let yourself be transported.
Beautiful Fable Beautifully 'Acted'
-----

Comparing Bernard Giraudeau and Félix Radu
The French publisher of Le petit prince, Gallimard, offers two recordings. Bernard Giraudeau, in France a well-known film actor who also recorded the French translations of the Harry Potter books, passed away in 2010. I believe that his performance was recorded in 2006.
In 2022, Gallimard released a new recording by Félix Radu, 27, an up-and-coming writer and actor working in his native Belgium and France. I like both performances, but they come across differently.
Giraudeau is somewhat more theatrical. He skips de Saint-Exupéry’s dedication to his friend Léon Werth, going straight to Chapter 1. Music is used to mark new chapters and to support events in the story. Giraudeau also adopts more markedly different voices for each character.
Radu’s reading puts de Saint-Exupéry’s words first. He starts with the dedication, which I think is important, framing the whole book. There’s no musical embellishment, just his voice. His delivery changes with the character, but more subtly. You can get a sense of his style from the many clips on YouTube of his work, and from his own YouTube channel.
Both recordings are of excellent quality. Radu and Giraudeau both speak clearly. For people who are interested in the backgrounds of the actors, Wikipedia has an entry for each. Radu also has a personal website.
