We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them.

Being a CEO at any of the world’s largest companies is among the most challenging roles in business. Billions, and even trillions, are at stake—and the fates of tens of thousands of employees often hang in the balance. Yet, even when “can’t miss” high-achievers win the top job, very few excel. For those who shoulder the burden of being the one on whom everyone counts, a manual for excellence is sorely needed. To identify the 21st century’s best CEOs, the authors of CEO Excellence started with a pool of over 2,400 public company CEOs.

Much of what we hear about who gets to the top, and how, is wrong. Those who become chief executives set their sights on the C-suite at an early age. In fact, over 70 percent of the CEOs didn't have designs on the corner office until later in their careers. You must graduate from an elite college. In fact, only seven percent of CEOs in the dataset are Ivy League graduates - and eight percent didn't graduate from college at all. To become a CEO you need a flawless résumé. The reality: 45 percent of CEO candidates had at least one major career blowup.

Conversely, how do senior leaders describe the kind of leader that undercuts the organization's capacity and capability to create its future? This book, based on groundbreaking research, shows how senior leaders describe and develop leadership that works, that does not, that scales, and that limits scale.

It shows how to create an organization of learners where memories are brought to life, where collaboration is the lifeblood of every endeavor, and where the tough questions are fearlessly asked. The stories here show that companies, businesses, schools, agencies, and even communities can undo their “learning issues” and achieve superior performance. If ever a work gave meaning to the phrase hands-on, this is it.

Publisher's summary
How does a good manager become a great leader? Ask around in business circles, and you’ll get a thousand different answers. But now, internationally-renowned leadership expert Dr. Peter Fuda has created a single, coherent roadmap for leadership effectiveness in Leadership Transformed.
After more than a decade’s research and practice, Dr. Fuda shares the seven common themes that have enabled hundreds of CEOs across the world to transform themselves into highly effective leaders, and transform the performance of their organizations as well. Through his work, Dr. Fuda discovered that the best way to elicit deep and broad discussion of the seven leadership themes - and to describe the CEOs’ mastery of what they had learned - was through metaphor.
- Fire - motivational forces that initiate and sustain transformation efforts
- Snowball mutual accountability, and the consequent momentum that occurs when a critical mass of leaders commit to shared leadership principles
- Master chef - leadership frameworks, tools, and strategies that can be 'artfully' deployed
- Coach - how a 'coaching staff' can collectively help leaders achieve their aspirations
- Mask - leaders can shed the heavy burden of wearing a mask in favor of a more congruent 'best self'
- Movie - leaders can develop critical capabilities of self-awareness and reflection
- Russian dolls - how a leader’s personal journey can align with the journeys of their colleagues and organization
Dr. Fuda has helped leaders on four continents achieve greatness. Previously available only to the select clients of his industry-leading consultancy, now his expert knowledge can accelerate your own leadership transformation.

No Ego is about increasing awareness of just how often individuals are operating out of ego at work, breeding drama and discord rather than innovation and constructive collaboration. It is high time to reinvent leadership thinking. The current work experience is so full of emotional waste that it's seen as a foregone cost in today's business environments. Cy Wakeman teaches straightforward strategies in which this time and energy can be re-commissioned and put toward the value that hired talent is intended to provide.

Read and Listen via KU and it's worth getting
Read and Listen via KU and it's worth getting. I had this read on app and the whispersync is so good. The integration is so good it makes me finish a book easily without putting it down.

Metaphors are very helpful
There is a lot to take in. The many actual people used as examples make this come alive. The leadership metaphors are great. Also, the reader did an excellent job.

Interesting
Not bad but would be better used as a book in hand. Each chapter ends with some ideas for further study. So I would rather have a hard copy to work with as I usual listen to books while driving.
