Publisher's summary

We all come into this world full of promise and possibility. For some, when born into a healthy and highly functional family, the journey is quite easy, with guideposts and directions given freely. However, that is a very small population of people. Most of us were born into families that were in their own way struggling for independence, accomplishment, safety, or security.

For the millions of people who grew up in painful families, whether by absent parents, abusive parents, or those who were ill-equipped, noted therapist Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse shows that they do not have to follow a family tradition of compulsion or addiction. In the revised edition of the classic Learning to Love Yourself, Wegscheider-Cruse explains that it is possible to create our own self-worth at any time in our lives, even as adults. She guides listeners on a journey to greater self-worth, explaining how to eliminate toxic, self-defeating messages; how to choose healthier, new perspectives; and how to reinvent yourself each day, open to a world of possibilities.

Great for people in recovery...

Would you listen to Learning to Love Yourself, Revised & Updated again? Why?

This book was very beneficial to me. I have a physical copy and downloaded the audio copy. This is a self-help book that I refer to over and over again. This book is very gook at helping people to overcome skewed or mistaken beliefs that we have about ourselves and helps us on the journey to recover and love ourselves. I have told two friends about this book, and both went out to buy it. I can remember showing my book to one lady while we were having breakfast, and she couldn't put it down. She later shared with my that she purchased the book. The other lady bought the book and works on in with her sponsor in a 12-step recovery program. This book can be life-changing if you allow it to be.

Shifted how I thought about Self-Worth

This is very comprehensive; I love how she touches on so many areas of our lives and explains how self-worth looks like.

Still very outdated

I'm not sure if this is meant for professionals or a lay audience. I listened to the whole thing, and I still don’t have any clue what to 👉do to love myself more. I know I would really like to have the resources to go on all of these trips to exotic places, cruises! Most of us don’t. White Privelege oozes from between the pages. This is insulting.
The author discusses alcoholism frequently, buy I want to know about CPTSD? I want to know how to love myself.
