Publisher's summary
Mick Jagger has described Phil Kaufman, America's legendary road manager, as the entertainment industry's "executive nanny." In Legend of the Road Mangler, Kaufman tells the stories of his adventures on the road with the Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Gram Parsons, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Marty Stuart, Nanci Griffith, and many others.
In addition to road managing, he's been an airman, an inmate, and (briefly) Charles Manson's record producer. To fulfill a promise, he once borrowed a hearse, stole Gram Parsons' body, and cremated it in the desert. You'll hear the whole story as only Kaufman can tell it, along with the voices of some of the artists who know him best. Legend of the Road Mangler is a must-listen for music fans who love to know what goes on behind the scenes, on the bus, after the show, and out in the desert.

More than 40 years ago Charles Manson and his mostly female commune killed nine people, among them the pregnant actress Sharon Tate. It was the culmination of a criminal career that author Jeff Guinn traces back to Manson’s childhood. Guinn interviewed Manson’s sister and cousin, neither of whom had ever previously cooperated with an author. Childhood friends, cellmates, and even some members of the Manson family have provided new information about Manson’s life. Guinn has made discoveries about the night of the Tate murders, answering unresolved questions.

Story
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

The tragic story of Susan Powell and her murdered boys, Charlie and Braden, is the only case that rivals the Jon Benet Ramsey saga in the annals of true crime. When the pretty, blonde Utah mother went missing in December of 2009 the media was swept up in the story - with lenses and microphones trained on Susan's husband, Josh. He said he had no idea what happened to his young wife, and that he and the boys had been camping in the middle of a snowstorm.

Oh my gosh what a fun listen this was! Me being a huge Stones fan, Emmylou fan, and as Phil says it A Gram-pire, this book was the front seat ride road managing all of these great artist that have left and continue to leave an Immaculately positive mark on all our lives! Phil gives you the personal details of each artist and how they were and how they lived on the road and how he worked his most hardest and honest for each one of them. Phil is an awesome guy still to this day at 87 years young who enjoys riding his Harley Davidson's and enjoys being humble. Listening to him here makes you feel as if your in the room with him having a beer and listening to how kool his time here truly is. An awesome fact I learned about him is that he worked on B-29 Superfortress Bombers in Korea during the Korean War. God Bless you Mr. Phil Kaufman!

This is not his book
This is a rambling interview apparently based on his book. It’s ok but nothing I would have wanted to hear more of

Great Story poorly told by the man who lived it
Lacked depth. A self centered view of a great era amongst legendary people. Phil was not one of them. Story grotesquely told, not in the least bit humorous. A legend in his own mind.
