"Unvarnished. Funny. Leaving no stone unturned"...So say the publishers about this audiobook I've written. What I say is that this is the story of my life, told as clear as a Texas sky and in the same rhythm that I lived it. It's a story of restlessness and the purity of the moment and living right. Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. Of selling vacuum cleaners and encyclopedias while hosting radio shows and writing song after song, hoping to strike gold.

Ronnie had to fight tooth and nail to wrest back control of her life, her music, and her legacy. And while she regained her footing, Ronnie found herself recording with Stevie Van Zandt, partying with David Bowie, and touring with Bruce Springsteen.

Publisher's summary
"This captivating audiobook purports to be about the musical development of the multitalented Lenny Kravitz.... As he draws listeners into his world, however, listeners begin to see that he's talking about something broader than music: This deeply thoughtful man is talking about how his passion for learning and expressing himself was shaped." (AudioFile magazine)
"I see my story as a suite of songs that have a magical connection. I never understood that connection until I sat down to write. It was then that the magic started to flow."
Let Love Rule is a work of deep reflection. Lenny Kravitz looks back at his life with candor, self-scrutiny, and humor.
“My life is all about opposites,” he writes. “Black and white. Jewish and Christian. The Jackson 5 and Led Zeppelin. I accepted my Gemini soul. I owned it. I adored it. Yins and yangs mingled in various parts of my heart and mind, giving me balance and fueling my curiosity and comfort."
Let Love Rule covers a vast canvas stretching from Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, Los Angeles’ Baldwin Hills, Beverly Hills, and finally to France, England, and Germany.
It’s the story of a wildly creative kid who, despite tough struggles at school and extreme tension at home, finds salvation in music.
We see him grow as a musician and ultimately a master songwriter, producer, and performer. We also see Lenny’s spiritual growth - and the powerful way in which spirit informs his music.
The cast of characters surrounding Lenny is extraordinary: his father, Sy, a high-powered news executive; his mother, Roxie Roker, a television star; and Lisa Bonet, the young actress who becomes his muse.
The central character, of course, is Lenny, who, despite his great aspirational energy, turns down record deal after record deal until he finds his true voice.
The creation of that voice, the same voice that is able to declare “Let Love Rule” to an international audience, is the very heart of this story.
"Whether recording, performing, or writing a book," says Lenny, "my art is about listening to the inspiration inside and then sharing it with people. Art must bring the world closer together."

With more than 90 million records sold and eight Grammy Awards throughout its 40-year history, Earth, Wind & Fire has staked its claim as one of the most successful, influential, and beloved acts in music history. Now, for the first time, its dynamic lead singer, Philip Bailey, chronicles the group's meteoric rise to stardom and his own professional and spiritual journey. Never before had a musical act crossed multiple styles and genres with a quixotic blend of astrology, universalism, and Egyptology as Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) did when it exploded into the public's conscience during the 1970s.

Of my childhood in Abbott, Texas, to the Pacific Northwest, from Nashville to Hawaii, and all the way back again. With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone “the Beatles of heavy metal,” helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band’s renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it. It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

A Guide to Raising a Child
I was going to title this "A Guide to Raising an Artistic Child" but realized the lessons apply to all children. Lenny was held tight enough to his family, and friends of his family, to feel their love and support but also let loose enough to wander. He was able to engage with so many people in his journey who would help him find out who he was as a person and artist. I have two young adult children who are creators - not following traditional paths. I am as loose as I can be given the current times. I love his mom and applaud her belief in her son... she had to let him go his own way to become the creative, kind and loving person he is today. What can our children do if we give them the space and time to find themselves? I love the essence of Lenny and want to hear more! I am enjoying listening to his music all over again :)

My favorite Audible book so far🦋
I was going to buy the book no matter what, because my roommate in Chicago was Lennys friend and I knew from Joey that besides being extremely creative he was an amazing friend to someone I loved . When I sampled the book , I was so relieved to hear Lenny’s voice his voice is soothing and at a time when the world needs Love to Rule. I’ll take all the soothing I can get .Our daily experiences from an early age form who we are and Lenny did a really good job of explaining his life experiences. I love people who care about people I also live when people are strong enough to say no I’ll live in my pinto and figure it out, Comfort is easy he stayed true to his self a lot. I loved your book Lenny. I can see Joey’s smiling face like it was yesterday. I can’t wait for the to be continued. Creativity is what we need , it heals 🍀Rhei

Well....
I guess I thought he became famous on his merits alone but literally he was so connected to so many brilliant people growing up how could he not succeed? I feel like it was a combo of really big talent and incredible ambition. I’m not taking anything away from him but he was very, very lucky but also took advantage of his good luck if that makes sense. He’s very good at being a rock star and I think he has a huge personal identity. I just don’t know how original he is. Let me just add, he sounds like a great person.

Enjoyed very much
Lenny Kravitz grew up as Black royalty and I had no idea! I was very excited to hear his experiences and learn of all the amazing artists he grew up around. Thanks for letting us in, Lenny. I will definitely be watching The Jeffersons and listening to your music!

Refreshingly candid
Thank you Lenny Kravitz for documenting your life’s journey and sharing it with your fans. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audible version of your book and learned some things I didn’t know about you and your life. #letloverule

great story
I enjoyed the background and his journey up till the point where he was still married to Lisa. I wish it had gone into more, but perhaps there's another book.

Listen to Let Love Rule!
Lenny provides and narrates an amazing look into his upbringing, his glamorous and famous mother, and his love of all things music. This is a great book about Lenny with great stories about life in New York and LA. I would have loved to hear more as the book ends before his rise into the upper stratosphere of rock and roll but perhaps this awaits in another great book.
