Super Fun Book

This was a fun fictional romp through the history of Barbie and the bad behavior and politics of the process. Well written. Loved the story!!
The narrator was good not amazing. She delivers the story but didn’t necessarily add to it. Her narration felt overly stylized and not natural.

What a wonderful way to combine real life events and fiction. I loved learning the stories behind Mattel and Ruth. This is a story that addresses the discrimination that continues to run through society. Loved it.

Love the history aspect in a creative manner of delivery

Very enjoyable story revolving around the history of the Barbie doll. I recommend this account of the creation of the Barbie doll and Mattel Co.

Barbie

I love Barbie, the doll! I had many, but my favorite was Malibu Barbie. After watching the Barbie movie, which did not give nearly enough respect to Ruth Handler, more importantly who Ruth was! I thought I had a grasp on it. This book brought all the trials and tribulations of the coming out of Barbie, the hilarious behind the scenes, but most importantly with the message of who Barbie and was meant to be! I’m a girl who was born in 1964, so I did not know any of the other stuff other than Barbie was my dream. I loved all of my Barbies, and all of my accessories. And I’m so grateful that tough as Nails Ruth got it done. Of course I now know all of the thoughts on Barbie, because I’ve grown up with the chatter.No one can be Barbie, we should not aspire to be Barbie, Barbie is a bad role model. No, I love me some Barbie, some Dolly, some Martha Stewart too! Thank you for this wonderful explanation of everything. I did not know about the idea of Barbie being so crazy!in retrospect it makes perfect sense to me a child who is born in the 60s raised in the 70s! I will and always will be a Malibu Barbie and I am proud of it because I am 60 and you can hear me roar now. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

If you are a fan of historical fiction about strong women this will delight! Couldn’t hit pause.

Great success story!

Author kept the interest of the reader from the beginning to the end. A book for all to read, not just Barbie lovers. Ruth Handler was before her time. A story about overcoming adversity and resilience.

Great story

It brought back many childhood memories. It was fascinating and interesting to hear about how such synergies collapse after hiring a bad person.

Must read!!

I absolutely loved this book. Did not want it to end. Must read if you liked Lessons in Chemistry.

Very much a Novel rather than Truth

I love the storyline, the history and the events, but the voice change to mimic between men and women speaking was annoying.

It was read/written more as a novel with made up sex scenes and affairs. None of which had anything to do with Barbie becoming the icon she is.

The character, Stevie and her attorney boyfriend aren’t real and they make up a large majority of the story interacting with other characters, which makes a large majority of the story fictional.

I wanted to learn about Barbie and the true events surrounding her, but I should have chosen a different book,

Barbie is impressive and how she was created is impressive, but THIS book was a disappointment and a waste of money.
