About this listen

"A tour de force...London tracks the history of the English capital from the days of the Celts until the present time.... Breathtaking." - The Orlando Sentinel

Here is Edward Rutherfurd's classic novel of London, a glorious pageant spanning 2,000 years. He brings this vibrant city's long and noble history alive through the ever-shifting fortunes, fates, and intrigues of half-a-dozen families, from the age of Julius Caesar to the 20th century. Generation after generation, these families embody the passion, struggle, wealth, and verve of the greatest city in the world.

Story good. Narrator not.

The story is pretty good but the narrator kept doing voices all breathy. Very annoying.

I love London

I’ve always had a considerable commute each day and never enjoyed FM radio. Too many commercials for my taste. A friend suggested I go to the library and get a Book on Tape. I followed his advise and stumbled across London and never looked back. The audio version was Unabridged and came in three parts and I started off with part B. It took over a year for me to find all three parts but it was worth the wait. The story and presentation made my daily drive a lot more bearable. I enjoyed the presentation so much I bought a paper copy. I’ve been waiting 20 years for them to offer a digital version and was floored when I finally saw it was available. I subscribed to Audible and finally got to hear the story from beginning to end. It was wonderful. This story will entertain you and make you want to listen multiple times.

Loved it!

What a wild ride! Loved the historical details, loved the characters. Could listen to this purring voice forever. Thankfully, there are more books by this author which are read by this artist. Great find!

Wonderful history lesson!

I thoroughly enjoyed this dive into London’s history. Loved how the characters continued throughout the centuries, all related and intertwined.
I recommend it.

Good Story

Certainly worth 1 credit.

The narration was kind of slow though. I set the playback speed to 1.10. After that it was pretty good.

Excellent Book - Ending Written Beautifully

They forced me to write 15 words for a review, but the title was all I wanted to say. Stupid rule.

Meat on the Bones of History

I love history and learning exactly how people lived in and thought about the times they existed. Sometimes history can be rather dry when you just address the who, what, when, where, and even the why ... Rutherford's books put meat on the bones of history and make it palatable for the reader. Villans and good folks, people with names--who thrive as well as those who struggle to survive--make it interesting and digestible.

Stick with it; this is an epic novel

Reminiscent of Ken Follett or James Michener, this well-researched fiction taught me so much about England and its rich history from the Druids up to post-WWII. Several families' stories tie it all together. Thank you Mr. Rutherfurd.

Going back in time

I love historical fiction and Rutherford is one of the best writers in the genre. I’ve spent almost 50 hours living the history of London and the time flew by. The narrator is excellent too!
