About this listen

"A tour de force...London tracks the history of the English capital from the days of the Celts until the present time.... Breathtaking." - The Orlando Sentinel

Here is Edward Rutherfurd's classic novel of London, a glorious pageant spanning 2,000 years. He brings this vibrant city's long and noble history alive through the ever-shifting fortunes, fates, and intrigues of half-a-dozen families, from the age of Julius Caesar to the 20th century. Generation after generation, these families embody the passion, struggle, wealth, and verve of the greatest city in the world.

London - A sweeping historical fiction

I've physically read 2 of his books, Paris and New York. They were excellent and London did not disappoint. Rutherford can do no wrong in my mind. Some listeners complained about the narrator's voice trailing off, but I didn't really notice. He did a great job changing his voice for different characters. I found myself carried away by the story.

I highly recommend this audiobook.

For those who love historical fiction...

This saga delighted me from beginning to end. At first I was reluctant to start, given the length of this book, but I truly enjoyed every minute I spent with the Balls, the Doggits, the Greensleeves, the Barnicles and all their relations, adversaries and loves.
The narration was wonderful, with shifts in tone and speech to reflect different characters.

Always engrossing

This is my third Edward Rutherford book and it is equal in value to the other two: New York and Paris. I find this to be a wonderfully entertaining way to learn history. I can’t wait to move to my next city on his list.

Did not disappoint

My only other novel by Edward Rutherford is Sarum, which I read years ago. London is written very similarly and did not disappoint. Looking forward to his other titles as well!

Absolutely Brilliant

LONDON is the most enjoyable historical fiction book I’ve ever “read.” Rutherford’s articulate genius is displayed in each chapter (individual novellas that address poignant moments in London’s history), weaving family lineage, geography, architectural design, and social norms into one great story.
I’ll be taking notes as I begin the next of his many offerings!

Breathtaking

I was completely transfixed and carried along by the stories in this epic novel. Beautifully narrated, the audio version never failed to transport me into the moment in history that each chapter represented. Having been born in London but growing up in the United States the novel was a tremendous gift of insight into my British heritage.
