A final fight with her mother propels Jillian out of the house to live with her grandmother. Little did anyone know the adventure they would encounter would be called Alzheimers.

Each family member copes with Alzheimer’s in their own way: denial, grief, acceptance, and avoidance.

Michelle Spray leads us through the realities of the “long goodbye,” from unplugging the stove, taking away the car keys, asking for help, and eventually finding a nursing home. Her main character, Jillian, bears the burden of caring for her grandmother who has the disease.

"You don't just throw someone away because they're sick:"...a statement by Jillian, the protagonist - says it like it is when it comes to all things Alzheimer's. As a former caregiver for a family member with Alzheimer's disease, you live that truth every minute of the caregiving day.

Author Michelle Spray's novel provides an excellent depiction of a younger person's reaction to dementia behaviors and symptoms. Jillian lives with her grandmother, thrust into the role of providing care for the primary female figure in her life while trying to live as most of her fellow 20-something-year-old friends were living; an impossible task if there ever was one...
