As satire it works!
This was my least favorite story from Mel's short story collection "West of You" and when I read it, I growled at it because--I am that brother and sister, ugh, don't rub my nose in it. But hearing it read aloud brought out the humor that I didn't hear when I read it mysel. Very funny, well done! Share and enjoy it!
