About this listen
Join Mr. Collins as his family discovers that he is not the dreaded cousin everyone assumes but is a man of conviction with whom one can share their burdens. He may even surprise you as you witness his temerity when he encounters the respectable Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley who himself is in Meryton to complete a task of his own making: to fulfill a promise to aid his close friend Mr. Bingley who has leased a property in Hertfordshire. And what might happen when these gentlemen, who seemingly have little in common, find themselves willing to do all in their power to aid the ladies they admire?
One warning, a caution, and two notes:
WARNING: This novella touches upon specific afflictions one may encounter when aging. In this tale, these scenes are equally difficult for the one who is aging and those who love them.
CAUTION: This novella contains a Mr. Collins who is a rather likeable fellow.
NOTE from the author: The whole of the novella takes place between the time Mr. Collins arrives at Longbourn and the following Easter when both Darcy and Elizabeth visit Kent. It is not in line with canon, nor is it always within the dictates of the proprieties at the time, but it was fun to write and, hopefully, will be an enjoyable tale to read.
NOTE from the author: Readers may notice what would be considered an improper use of capitalization when referring to members of the militia throughout this novel. These capitalizations were not made in error but simply demonstrate respect for the rank earned by the characters portrayed in this novel, a form of deference and respect that could not be overlooked by the author.

One warning, two cautions, and a note: WARNING: In deference to a truth universally acknowledged that men do not behave the same when no women are present as they do in mixed company, this vagary does have occasional uses of profanity. The men in my life would consider it amusing but naïve to afford the same semantics of conversation for wholly different circumstances such as these, or they would should one of them choose to read it. An unbelievable thing has just happened at Meryton’s Assembly Ball. A feather worked its way loose from Miss Bingley’s turban, swooping unerringly for Mr. Darcy’s unprotected eye! Instinctively, the gentleman in question raised his hand and stepped backward to avoid the object, tripping Miss Elizabeth Bennet and then falling upon her prone form. Scandalous! This is yet another sweet, clean, low-angst Pride and Prejudice Variation. This book of 64,000 words takes Elizabeth and Darcy out of their usual circumstances and meeting places. All of the usual villains are part of the story but minimized significantly. If you enjoy a light-hearted version of Our Dear Couple’s road to Happily Ever After, this may be a book for you. Excerpt: Mr. Thomas Bennet massaged his temples as his five-day-old daughter again woke and cried in hungry complaint. Of Friendship and Forgiveness is a sweet, clean, low angst Pride and Prejudice variation of 62,000 words written from a Christian perspective. Excerpt: Elizabeth lay back onto the grass allowing the sun to warm her face and the breeze to tousle her hair. The gloriously vivid blue sky was reflected perfectly in the still end of the loch while the waterfall at the other end sent a cooling mist into the air. Perfect. This was a perfectly lovely day in a perfectly lovely place. She thought about the series of events that had brought her here to this remote estate in Scotland, alone except for ...

Story
This novel of 67,000 words is a sweet and clean variation of Pride and Prejudice written from a Christian perspective. The characters meet as children and grow in understanding of themselves and each other over the period of Elizabeth at age five until her marriage. There are no super-villains to wreak havoc on our heroes or heroines in this low-angst retelling. Except: Summer 1796 - On a mild summer day in Hertfordshire, Lady Anne Darcy sat in the shade of the terrace overlooking the generous expanse of manicured lawn behind their leased estate. Netherfield Park was an agreeable location ...

The Bennett family have lived close to the town of Meryton, in Hertfordshire County, for over two centuries. They have had good times and troubled times, still managing to keep their middle-sized estate, Longbourn, within the family. Story
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that while a man in possession of a fortune may be in want of a wife, there may be ladies who do not reciprocate. This may be especially so when the man in question not only possesses the rightful inheritance of said ladies, but is also of a most odious disposition and less than agreeable in appearance. Such was the lot of five young women near the town of Meryton. Not only had they no fortune, their own father, an absentee parent at best, had not the foresight to put aside a single pound should they not have the opportunity marry. For this sole ...

Story
The Bennet family of Longbourn, Hertfordshire, had long been known to its neighbours as exceptionally learned though eccentric, but was tolerated because the first Bennets settled there more than four hundred years before, just after the great plague. Both the grandfather and father of the master, Mr. Thomas Bennet, married blue-stocking wives from the Continent. These circumstances had a profound effect on Mrs. Bennet and her five daughters. Because of this broader worldview, the Bennet family was more aware of, and affected by some historical events of the period far outside the twenty-...

Interesting JAFF vaguery
Even if the book is narrated by “virtual voice,” why wasn’t an English accent used? The American-style voice distracted from the storyline so much it was difficult to remember this was about ODC et al.

Lady Catherine sends a very different Mr Collins to Longbourn. He arrives and sets in motion, revelations for Meryton and the Bennet's. When Mary and Jane speak up, on the day of the Netherfield Ball, the Bennet's must face their faults and failures. Is forgiveness and redemption possible?

Couldn't wait for it to end
If it had just been Mr. Collins' character that had changed it might've been an enjoyable listen, at least in the beginning, but nearly EVERY character, save Lydia, was FAR different than the original. I believe the author thought to make the Bennett ladies assertive and fierce, but they came across as aggressive, disrespectful, sanctimonious, and just plain obnoxious. Even the reimagined Anne was unnecessarily snippy with Darcy.
As to the story itself, it could have EASILY been trimmed down by at least a third, if not me. The tedium was almost unbearable. I wish my constitution would allow me to not finish a book, but since it won't I am very thankful that Audible offers a variety of playback speeds. I spent the last 2 hours at 1.7, but I probably should've just gone straight to 2.0. At least it's over now.

I love JAFF but this one kept me in a constant state of annoyance
This book explores the family dynamics in a way that attempts to be honest but ends up feeling like a bunch of people blaming others for their poor quality of life over the last decade(s). Kitty’s flat refusal to forgive Lydia & the way everyone treats everyone after characters have changes & asked for forgiveness says more about the so-called victims than it does about those who were young/ignorant/stupid. I felt annoyed the entire time I was listening. Performance is AI & that is hard to rate. I don’t necessarily hate it because it is what it is & I’m assuming it makes my addiction to audible cheaper?
