Taylor is the name, John Taylor. My card says I'm a detective, but what I really am is an expert on finding lost things. It's part of the gift I was born with as a child of the Nightside. I left there a long time ago, with my skin and sanity barely intact. Now I make my living in the sunlit streets of London. But business has been slow lately, so when Joanna Barrett showed up at my door, reeking of wealth, asking me to find her runaway teenage daughter, I didn't say no.

Spencer Quinn’s first original audio short story reveals how everyone’s favorite detective duo - Chet the Dog and P.I. Bernie Little - came to meet before their first big case in Dog On It. As fans know, Chet first met Bernie on that fateful day when he flunked out of K-9 police school. The details of that day, though, have always remained a little vague (like so much in Chet’s doggy brain). All we know is that Chet had been the best leaper in his K-9 class, but for some reason he failed his final leaping test...and that a cat was involved...and that there was some blood. But whose?

Publisher's summary
It's almost Labor Day, and the end of summer could mean the end of someone's life in this exciting sequel to Chris Grabenstein's Tilt-a-Whirl.
Young Danny Boyle, the part-time summer cop "down the shore" in Sea Haven, New Jersey, gets taken on a wild ride when he and his longtime beach buddies become the unwitting targets of a madman's twisted scheme for revenge. Fortunately, John Ceepak, the cop with a soldier's unshakable code of honor, stays at Danny's side to help him negotiate the quick twists and turns that threaten to destroy his life, his friends, and everything about the world he loves.
Whipping from the boardwalk to the beach and back again, Mad Mouse keeps zigging and zagging at a breakneck pace, all the way to the surprising finish.
Critic reviews
"Likable good guys, plausible bad guys, a sensible plot and a supple prose style that moves from breezy to poignant." (Kirkus Reviews)

Story
It's the middle of a sweltering late-summer heat wave in Los Angeles. In the nearby mountains, a seasonal wildfire burns out of control. If not for this fire, authorities might never have discovered wreckage of an Alfa Romeo convertible - or the body of the car's driver - in the dense underbrush at the bottom of Topanga Canyon. But when firefighters happen across the crash site while battling the nearby blaze, it's only a matter of time and basic forensics before the apparent accident is upgraded to homicide.

Ceepak quickly becoming one of my favorites!
Would you listen to Mad Mouse again? Why?
No. I don't listen to any books twice. There are to many I haven't heard to want to hear one twice.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ceepak is by far my favorite character. Ceepak is the kind of cop I like. He is what you would want all cops to be like. The narrator really does a good job with him as he sounds I would imagine him to sound. In the end I just like his style.
Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I listened to the first and the series and found this one to be just as good. It was a good story with believable characters and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes but I did not.
Any additional comments?
If you want a fast paced, interesting, funny cop mystery than give this series a try.

Another one to love!
I really enjoyed it - I thought this one was different because it seemed the mystery was solved so early in the book but....of course, another twist! Graberstein never fails to entertain me and Woodman is a great reader!!!! Bought the next book in the series a few minutes ago!

Love these guys!
Mad Mouse is even better than Tilt a Whirl, which was pretty derned good!
While the mysteries seem light-hearted, they're packed with twists, turns, great deduction and character.
Jeff Woodman is one of the finest narrators in the field. His voices are flawless and convincing, even in this story with many characters, most of them women!
Give this series a listen. As for me, I'm off to download Whack a Mole!

A fun Ride
Another great book in the Ceepak series. The author does a great job of building the story and setting the stage making you feel as if you're right there on the boardwalk with them. As before, you're kept guessing on who the killer is, and with his dry humor and story telling makes for a fun ride.
The narration by Mr Woodman is great, it really brings the characters to life!

Ceepak and Boyle plus boardwalk and murder!
This series is growing on me. The quirky main characters are surrounded by many eccentric residents and even more bizarre summer visitors. As usual, there is murder at the seaside and the mayor and his cronies do everything they can to keep Boyle and Ceepak from investigating and damaging the town's tourist season.
Jeff Woodman does an excellent job of portraying stoic Ceepak and sarcastic Boyle. He also distinguishes between others in the story.
I am moving on in the series.

Great, light storytelling.
I enjoyed this book even more than Tilt-A-Whirl. I think the reason that I liked it better is because I knew what to expect from the characters more, and I knew the style of both writing and narration that I was in for. Tilt-A-Whirl is probably a slightly better written novel, but I really enjoyed Mad Mouse. The John Ceepak character is such a great one, as is the Danny Boyle character. I love these books because they don't try to be more than they are. They are not life changing books, but they are fun! Jeff Woodman does such a great job with the narration, too. I don't think the experience would be as good with a different narrator. Super fun, and I can't wait to listen to the next book!

Love this series
Would you consider the audio edition of Mad Mouse to be better than the print version?
I enjoyed both versions equally. I thought the narrator really captured the characters as I had read them.
Any additional comments?
The characters and plot are both interesting and well developed. Danny is very real and down to earth, and its nice to see the relationship he has with Ceepak. Ceepak is the type of hero I grew up with - honorable and strong. I love the characters. The plot is fast moving and sucks you in. I have recommended this book and series to friends.

Any additional comments?
Jeez! This Chris Grabenstein guy is the definition of diversity when it comes to his crime mysteries. I've listened to this series completely out of order but from the location, to the victims, to the bad guys the author is not afraid to write every type of person from all walks of life in his stories and I must commend him for that!!! I appreciate that so much. xoxo
This story had me so off balanced. I thought Hell Hole was sad and only Mind Scrambler would have me that twisted and turned around but oh no Mr. Grabenstein writes a doozie in this one too! LOL. I was not expecting who the bad guy was in this one at all. And I found myself teary eyed at some parts and unable to stop laughing at others.
Although I didn't feel as guilty laughing in this one as I did in Hell Hole or Mind Scrambler. Danny's character with Ceepak is just too hilarious. I only wish there were so many more stories with these two. I'm already dreading when I'll listen to the last audio in this series.
In this series Mr. Jeff Woodman has definitely become the 5th narrator I'm voice crushing on hard! 😍 He's fabulous as Danny and Ceepak and I love to hear all the different voices he can do for each character. He's so talented!
