Resumen del Editor

Said to be the world's longest poem, Mahabharata was originally composed in 100,000 Sanskrit verses by the ancient Indian sage Vyasa. Revered as a sacred text within Hinduism, it contains the great spiritual teaching Bhagavad-gita. Krishna Dharma has condensed the epic into a fast paced novel that fully retains the majestic mood of the original. A powerful and moving tale, it recounts the history of the five heroic Pandava brothers, sons of the Emperor Pandu. Cheated of their kingdom and sent into exile by their envious cousins, they set off on a fascinating journey during which we meet gods, sages, mystics and mighty warrior kings. Profound spiritual themes underlie the thrilling narrative, making it one of the world's most revered texts. Culminating in an apocalyptic war, Mahabharata is a masterpiece of suspense, intrigue, and illuminating wisdom.

Great Listen

What made the experience of listening to Mahabharata: The Greatest Spiritual Epic of All Time the most enjoyable?

Heart felt reading. well translated. I have read/listened to many renditions -not having time to read a full translation. This and Jaya are my favorite so far.

What did you like best about this story?

Its comparative completeness.

What about Sarvabhavana Das’s performance did you like?

Very heartfelt, warm reading. However, if you have no patience with a homey read, this may not be for you. Can sometimes hear his chair squeak or can tell he has a cold. Chapter ten was obviously never edited and he has a cough that can be distracting.

Any additional comments?

Jaya is another rendition of the Mahabharata that I highly recommend. If you like to feel you are listening to a friend read, this is an excellent listen. I downloaded in parts and the end of part three and beginning of part four have three or four incomplete sentences. In such a long production, I felt the problems were small quirks. But I do hope if they go back and edit the production, Audible will offer us the edited version to replace this one.

Incredible

I bought this audiobook three years ago, and I keep coming back to it again and again. I think I am on my fourth listen. It keeps registering at a deeper level. At almost 46 hours long, it is the audiobook that keeps on giving. The readers voice is very soothing and easy to listen to. The translation is beautiful and brings out the wisdom teachings without losing the fun and adventure of the story.

Good narrative of an epic story

I enjoyed this respectful telling of the epic tale. The characters represent different aspects of one's internal spiritual life.

Epic Battles in a Family Drama

If you love the Baghavad Gita here you get the back story told from various perspectives. On one side the noble Pandava Brothers on the other side the wicked Coravas.
In mythic style the stage is set when the chaste Kunti is visited by a Celestial entity who impregnates her, 4 times. On one occasion she is blessed with twins. Thus her 5 sons are all demi-gods endowed with heroic strength and favorites of God. They are the Pandavas
Their cousins, the Corovas, although more numerous, are mearly heroic mortals and crushingly jealous of their lucky cousins. Always trying to get the better of them, even if they have to cheat, the Corovas play one dirty trick after another on the Pandavas.
On one hand it's a fabulous entertainment. On the other hand it's a morality tale. Pandavas face moral questions, consult with their advisors and either pick the right course or fail and pay the consequences. The Corovas usually ignore the council of their elders and betters and follow their headstrong leader Deriodin in whatever diabolical action his ego leads them into.
I found the narrator to be pleasant. He didn't try to distinguish the characters voices but I still was able to follow without trouble.
I'm sure I'll listen to this book again and again because, like the Bible, it's filled with great stories and leaves you with a terrific sense of the moral way to live.

Wonderful reading of a spiritual gem

I have read this version of the Mahabharata. The reader did an excellent job reading a very long book. Wonderful to hear different gems you miss while reading. Highly recommend to all. Krishna Dharma does the best job for translations.

Epic, Mystical, Magical, Spiritual, Enchanting!

The Mahabarata reigns above all other books! It takes you into a mystical World of fantasy, however it is possibly based on true historical events and not fictional. Written originally by Veda Vyasa it tells the majestic stories of the conjoining of the Gods and humans. Virtuous and true in every way regardless of the authenticity of the events. Enjoy this epic story of romance, love, passion and virtue! Namaskaram
