About this listen

What else did they have to do with their days? They ambled around casually. From time to time, they paused, not because they were out of breath but to admire a tree, a house, the play of light and shadow, or a face.

While taking a much-needed rest cure in Vichy with his wife, Maigret feels compelled to help with a local investigation, unravelling the secrets of the spa town's elegant inhabitants.

Georges Joseph Christian Simenon (1903 – 1989)

Georges Joseph Christian Simenon (1903 – 1989) was a Belgian writer who claimed to have slept with 10,000 women in his search for "la femme." His literary output was nearly as prolific yet always quite good.

Classic Maigret

This a wonderful work. Compelling, mysterious and, as always, filled with Simenon's absolutely tangible descriptions of France and Inspector Maigret's world. The entire series is exceptional, but this is in the top ten. And, as usual, Gareth Armstrong's masterful narration makes it even better. Bravo.

Best of Maigret

A tour de force. Deep sympathique characters. Sad with a unique twist at the end.

A Powerful Portrait of Marriage- Two of Them

It begins very slowly, but there’s method in the monotony of life in Vichy. Maigret once again feels his way into the minds of both murderer and victim.

Wonderful Atmosphereic Mystery

I have only recently discovered Inspector Maigret. This is my favorite one so far. it is very different from the ones in Paris. The atomosphere is very pleasant, but the ending is extremely noir.
