Publisher's summary

Austin Barrington is nervous - but hopeful - when his mail order bride, Georgia Langley, steps off the train. From the few letters they've exchanged, it seems they have a lot of the same ideals and goals. He is concerned that an educated young lady from Boston might be scared, bored - or both - living on a ranch in Wyoming, but he hopes she will be able to adjust and that they will make a good couple. In time, he plans to teach her to ride a horse and shoot a gun, but for now, he will keep a close eye on her to keep her safe.

It soon becomes clear that what he expected from his new bride and what he has received are two very different things. Within just three days of her arrival, Georgia leaves the ranch on her own and goes looking for employment - after finding out that husbands in Laramie in 1890 commonly correct their wives' bad behavior with a trip over their knee.

Austin and Georgia may have different views on the concept of domestic discipline, but they are a good match in many other ways. Follow their story in this action-packed adventure, as they find themselves in the center of a mysterious and dangerous situation.

Mail Order Surprise

This was a really fun and adventurous story. I liked her spirit and determination. And the story had plenty of action. My only complaint was her new husband thinking she was a child requiring spankings to correct her, but he gets nothing for his mistakes.

Enjoyed the Ride

Well written and narrated. I bought the audio book and didn't listen to it right away. I started the novel and Loved it right up to the long chapters on education. That's where I gave up and stopped reading and gave the book a poor review. But as time passed, I thought I'd listen to the audio book while mowing the lawn. Found I was too hasty in my review. I totally enjoyed the rest of the novel. We believe in spanking as a form of domestic discipline and enjoyed reading about a couple that believes like we do. There would be a lot less divorce if couples spanked.

More than it seems

I will admit when I first started this one I was expecting a pretty cliche spanking romance story. I am happy to say that I was very wrong. There was actually quite a bit of depth and action going on. Austin had me a little angry at first but once he realized his mistake he owned up to it and learned from it.

D.C. Cole did a great job with the narration. For the most part each character had his or her own voice and way of speaking that made it easy to follow the story.

So well done

D.C Cole has reached new heights in...characterization? Embodying characters? I don't even know what to call it. I was really impressed with all of the different characters and the distinctness of even the side characters in his performance. He just seems to become each character in a way I don't see often. Davina Porter is like the only narrator I can think of off the top of my head. Most have a style, even a style I may really like. But, DC is so fluid in becoming different people not just performing a character. It's uncanny.

So Georgia should have turned around and went right back where she came from when Austin first took her back to town? Yes, but then the story would have been over. I wish that the story would have stuck with her either being strong and independent or...not. The characters were interesting. This story had great potential. And, what DC Cole did with it was exceptional.

Entertaining!

There is something about mail order bride stories that I love. I think it's the instant chemistry that the books provide, making me wonder if it really was like that back in the old west. The characters in this story were a little older than most that I have listened to, so I think that gave a little more maturity to the book as well. Austin sends for Georgia, and as in most cases, the letters that were exchanged between the two did not give full disclosure. The continued surprises that Georgia brought to this book added to her spunk and individuality. She is very independent and doesn't always think before acting. Austin believes in giving her some wiggle room, but when she crosses the line, a good spanking is in order. Surprises from both sides! This story also included some suspense, which is always a plus for me. I like a back story for the romance, it gives the book some body and intensity.

D.C. Cole can make any book for me be entertaining. He is able to give this old time western the punch it needs to keep me interested. From Georgia to Ausitn, the voice he gives the story is well placed, easily discernible and flows with ease. Love his ability to entertain and keep my interest.

What A Nice Surprise

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I most certainly would, I`m a big fan of D.C Cole`s work and once again he was fantastic. He did such a great job with all the characters in story, I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy it at much as I did. D.C is a master at bringing books to life and bringing you along for the ride.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Austin, he made me like him even when I didn't agree with all his actions. In fact I enjoyed all of the characters in this book.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Austin went to collected Georgia from the sheriffs office, it was touching and sweet if not a little funny

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Protect and Love Her.... even if she is a handful. LOL

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed this so very much, can`t wait to find another of D.C Cole`s audiobooks, and this book was so beautifully written. It was a perfect match, congratulations to you both.

Disappointing & frustrating

Mostly just a western story with a few annoying spanking scenes that are incredulous. Like a woman would react that way to that sort of treatment & not strike back?!?! Yeah, right.
