Performance could be off-putting to some

This is NOT an audio book! (A fact Audible should have made clear!) It is a series of canned, scripted and awkwardly performed "interviews." The content is good and useful, but the delivery is not good.

performance poor, content gpod

The reviews of this being poorly performed are correct. The content however is very good. If you're looking for the content you will probably have to listen to this twice.

some good info narrow field of focus

the info is good with majority of references to hospitals or churches. some take away are good but as far as managing a non-profit it's minimal. this is better a podcast episode than a audio book.

Why abridge this wonderful SHORT book? Why oh why?

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Decades ago I listened to the complete books-on-tape version. I bought this without noticing it was abridged. Some of the best parts were cut out, including my favorite story of young Drucker (about 14 years old) having a favorite teacher ask his class what they would like to be remembered for. Years later they all remembered that moment and how it had changed their lives.

Drucker's voice is wonderful. He is profound and insightful.

Why didn't they include the whole thing? All they had to do was copy it what already existed. If they had included the whole book, I would have given it 5 stars across the board.

Arrrgh!

What did you like best about this story?

Drucker's wisdom and gentle-gravelly voice.

Any additional comments?

Private sector people should read this too. Much of it applies to them, especially the parts about self-development and motivation. Especially as philosophies like Lean and Agile cause corporate cultures in parts of the private sector to resemble the cultures of non-profits.

To low to slow

How can anyone sit and be bored trying to get out of a book what you hope to learn as the voice is so low you cannot hear what they are saying even on 100% volume and spoken so low they sound like they are sleeping and mumbling to themselves. How frustrating!

great advice, bad audio

Yes, the audio quality is terrible. Peter Drucker is perhaps the best authority on leadership, especially for non-profits. This books is not an abridgement of his classic work on non-profits, but a series of interviews that he gave on topics covered in his book. The interviews are facinating and full of wonderful information. It is a shame the audio quality is so poor.

Entry

If you've never worked in the nonprofit sector it is a good introduction. The discussion is interesting and goes at a leisurely pace, but it wasn't as detailed as I hoped.

Great Interview Format

Given the length, I expected a long, drawn out “business text” on how to run a nonprofit. I was pleasantly surprised to listen to what I felt was a instructional interview with a master named Peter Drucker. Pointed questions with contextual and relatable answers filled my brain with knowledge more than any business text could have done. This is because it was engaging vs. lecturing. I highly recommend this book, particularly if you have a good for-profit business background. I do think a new leader would benefit from this book as well.

Good book, Fair recording

The info in the book is outstanding, but the recording quality is just not there. I understand the desire to hear it all "straight from the author," but when the author speaks with a heavy accent and doesn't enunciate well, it makes it hard to mine information from the audio.

Good but hard to understand

I bought the paperback version of this book to follow along with the reading too but this didn’t follow the book and was hard to tell what section of the paper back I was in on the audio. I understand that this is Drucker’s actual voice but it was very difficult to understand his speech. Between his tone & the softness of some of his voice in areas I chose just to read the book without the audio over the top. Great book, poor audio. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
