Publisher's summary
Knox County, Ohio, a quiet community when it comes to crime, is home to a sinister, religious killer who is eliminating members of the county in the exact order of the Ten Commandments. Struck with fear, residents are praying for someone who will put an end to an executioner who is bent on fulfilling every judgment until the last detail is achieved.
Detective Elijah Jennings hopes to put a stop to that. A man of struggling faith, he pushes his alcohol problems aside knowing he needs a clear conscience to stop this psychopath who has already judged seven victims. Yet, the deeper Elijah digs into the most twisted case of his career, he knows stopping a cold-blooded killer like this is anything but easy. And the further Elijah walks this perilous road, the more he realizes the killer has more in store, even for him.

Each tale is a magic trick, luring you toward the light while leading you down an ever-darkening path. There is hope mingled with horror, and that s Chizmar s secret power. His storytelling always beats with a huge, passionate heart. Stephen King says he writes terrific stories served with a very large slice of disquiet pie, and with The Long Way Home, Richard Chizmar has taken his evocative and compelling storytelling to an entirely new level.

Story
It's been said that all great literature boils down to one of two stories—a man takes a journey, or a stranger comes to town. While mystery writers have been successfully using both approaches for generations, there's something undeniably alluring in the nature of a stranger: the uninvited guest, the unacquainted neighbor, the fish out of water. In the newest collection of stories by the Mystery Writers of America, each author weaves a fresh tale surrounding the eerie feeling that comes when a stranger enters our midst, featuring stories by prolific mystery writers.

Story
Legal investigator Finley O’Sullivan searches for evidence the police overlooked, wading through secrets, lies, and betrayal to find answers. With the unsolved murder of her husband still very much on her mind, Finley must confront her own personal trauma on a daily basis. Lies are part of her livelihood, but they’re also the reason she can’t get justice for the man she loved. When a man imprisoned for murder recants his confession, claiming he cleaned up the mess for his girlfriend—the victim’s own daughter—Finley takes on the case.

Fifteen years ago, Blair's best friend Molly was murdered. Fifteen years ago, Adrian Jones went to prison for it. Fifteen years ago, the real killer got away with it. And now, Blair's terminally ill sister has made a devastating deathbed confession, which could prove that the wrong man has been imprisoned for years - and that Molly's killer is still out there. Story
What’s happening in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia? Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner, and seemingly half the town is there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast, and no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it connected to the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the country just like Acker’s Gap? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader targeted somehow?

Great Book!!!!
This book will keep you interested all the way through! Everyone in my town (Mount Vernon) was talking about it so I decided to try it out. I’m glad I did. I read the paperback which was awesome so I tried out the audible version and it’s just as good! An exciting thriller from a local fireman.
