Publisher's summary
Nathan never should have gotten in that truck. That he knew for sure, but something animalistic, something sexy, something almost magnetic drew him to the mysterious brooding man who beckoned for him to get in and so he did.
What ensues is a night Nathan will never forget, filled with intrigue, passion and mind-blowing dominant sex only an alpha werewolf shifter can give you; a night Nathan soon finds he was destined to experience. But could it lead to true love or will Nathan be tossed aside like he has by so many men before him?

Story
Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

Quite Engaging!
This was reasonably engaging. Each book ends on a cliffhanger, so it makes sense to get the box set before you dive in.

You will want the box set.
This book is different than most and it's well written. You will want the box set. Each novella ends in a cliffhanger. The boxset has the whole story. It is also well narrated.

needs a trigger warning
Would I listen to it again: maybe
Did the story keep me engaged: reasonably
Was I invested in the characters: not really - but given it's written as a series of shorts, there wasn't really a lot of character development to work with.
Story comment? entertaining enough providing you're NOT looking for a typical "feel good" shifter story - it's somewhat dark.
Should have a trigger warning - there are elements of this collection containing "non consensual sex: forced couplings, the threat of gang rape and brutality".
I'm a bit on the fence with the narration. There are differences in the characters voices and the rhythm and intonations are OK and work to bring life to the characters, but there's a gravelly undertone in the narrators voice that didn't really work for me and by the last book the narration felt really inconsistent to book one (sorry! - consistency is really important for me ).

Do what?
Wow, this one was a struggle. I finished simply because I can't help not to once I've started. It's certainly not because it was good. Jamie Lake seems to have an interesting writing style. The characters seem to always have to choose between good and decent and abusive and hateful. I can't see in any reality where anyone would even attempt to choose a rapist. What in the heck?!

DNF...
I'm glad I only borrowed this book because the narration drove me crazy enough to stop listening before the first chapter finished. The voice quiver mad all the characters seem old...not for me.
I'll try and read the books later and maybe be able to update my review.

would not recommend
seems rushed and poorly written. never goes back to talk about the fact that he was raped with a beer bottle in front of the pack. justifies it as a "Rocky start" to their relationship.
