I'm lucky to have found this!

This particular audiobook has been a tremendous help in learning intermediate Japanese. The format is very natural and makes learning at this level very approachable, all intermediate grammar points are well explained. The articles are an excellent way to learn relevant Japanese words and the articles are actually interesting, I enjoyed listening to them so it didn't feel like hard work to learn hundreds of new vocabulary words. The test questions were super helpful in making sure I understand everything as I went along. Also, I loved how you can download the pdf from the publishers website. This audiobook is a gem!

Very Good Intermediate Resource

I have been studying Japanese for almost seven years with a variety of tools, and this audiobook has a wealth of information for the intermediate learner. The organization of the lessons has an article read in small sections with grammar and vocabulary bits between each section. Then the article is read in Japanese, summarized in English, and there is a short quiz on the content.

One of the tools I often used to help myself was language podcasts, and this is very much like you will find in the languagepod101 podcasts. For those of you familiar with that, the similar structure should make it easy to pick up the material.

The grammar is definitely intermediate Japanese. If you are only a beginner, you will find using this frustrating, but an intermediate learner like myself will have no trouble finding the texts enriching. I plan on listening to the articles again until I get through the material without consulting anything in English.

My default Audible app setting is to listen to materials at 1.25 speed. I listened to Pimsleur Japanese 4 on that speed without difficulty, but that was almost too fast for this. So as a study tip, I do recommend you slow down your playback speed if you need to.

I didn’t care for the male narrator’s voice, but that’s a personal preference. He was easy to understand and was not otherwise problematic. The female narrator spoke quickly but sounded otherwise standard Japanese and not dialect. I also didn’t care for some of the advice aspects of the texts, but it might have been because I heard them in male English narrator’s voice.

The best audience for this is an intermediate Japanese learner (no surprise). You’ll expand your grammar, especially with different verb structures. Do take advantage of the supplementary PDF with full lesson information, including full texts of the articles.

Truth in reviewing: I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Great Resource for Intermediate Japanese Learners!

What did you love best about Master Intermediate Japanese?

The teaching method and quality of the information provided was excellent! This book is the perfect level of Japanese I am practicing and it has been a great resource for me!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Master Intermediate Japanese?

The discussion early on about anime! (^。^)

Would you listen to another book narrated by David Michaels and Ryoko Yasuno ?

Being an audio engineer and voice artist myself I'm probably a little hard to please, but the quality of the audio recording was a little lacking. However, the content of the book itself more than made up for it. So assuming content future products by David and and Ryoko is of the same standard, I can deal with the audio quality!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It just made me super excited to be learning more Japanese!

Great Listening Practic

After not using Japanese much for over 25 years, I decided to start reviewing. I was worried this would be too difficult, but it isn't. I don't understand occasional words, but the accompanying PDF helps with that. It's great for reviewing my Kanji also. I hope they come out w/ more audiobooks like this, although I'm guessing there are tons of youtube videos, etc. This was easy to listen to on my phone and had a nice variety of topics.
