Publisher's summary

Andie Miller is ready to move on with her life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her. A distant cousin has died and left North the guardian of two orphans who have driven away three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs someone to take care of the situation, and he knows Andie can handle anything....

When Andie meets the two children, she realizes the situation is much worse than she feared. Carter and Alice aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. Complicating matters is Andie’s fiancé’s suspicion that this is all a plan by North to get Andie back. He may be right, because Andie’s dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. And that’s not the only haunting....

Then her ex-brother-in-law arrives with a duplicitous journalist and a self-doubting parapsychologist, closely followed by an annoyed medium, Andie’s tarot card–reading mother, her avenging ex-mother-in-law, and her jealous fiancé. Just when Andie’s sure things couldn’t get more complicated, North arrives to make her wonder if maybe this time things could just turn out differently....

A Realistic Love Story

The writing was intelligent, quick witted, funny, and senual. I was hooked into the story from the very beginning because it caught my attention. The characters are complicated but I was able to follow. The only suggestion, the male characters should be read by men, not women pretending to be men. It just caught me off guard. Otherwise, I laughed out loud, and really got into the story.

This is my first Audible book and first Jennifer Crusie's book. Great experience!

A Chick Lit My Hubby even liked!

Where does Maybe This Time rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top percentage. For its quick moving storyline and surprises.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The lead character Andie. She's tough, smart and jut a little less cynical than she thinks.

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The voice of the Auntie with its tinkly laughter and sinister whisper. You just had to love her eventually. Trying NOT to spoil!!

Any additional comments?

Really cute story with a feel good ending. Narrator is fabulous.

Love this!

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to a good book. What a great breath of fresh air! Love the bantering between all the characters. There is love, mystery, ghosts and a great story. This book was funny and kept me interested. I wished I had listen to this sooner. I plan on reading more of Jennifer’s books. Narrator did a great job as well! I highly recommend this book.

Loved It!!!

I love a book with suspense and romance (not all mushy, mushy). This one has both and held my interest from the beginning to the end. This was my second audio by Jennifer Crusie and will purchase more of them. It could become a movie, except they would butcher the story when they rewrite and start filming, so maybe it should be left alone as a book. I wish she would write a sequel about the brother--maybe I will go to her website and suggest it.

Every time I write a review on these audio tapes, I can't stress it enough, the narrator can make or break a book. Angela Dawe's does a wonderful job distinguishing the characters--you can hear the difference (will listen to more from her as well).

Get it, you will enjoy. Glad to be the first to review.

Entertaining

I have come to really enjoy Jennifer Crusie's writing, particularly her snappy sense of humor. This story is somewhat dated (it is set in 1992) but very enjoyable if you're looking for a light romance with some mystery, family drama and a few ghosts.

Angela Dawe is a good narrator and avoids the trap of hoarsely voiced men. She voices a variety of characters from old to young, alive to ghostly, making it easier to understand who is speaking and bringing young Alice, in particular, to life.

I prefer a bit more romance to my stories and a stronger hero. North is ok, just didn't set me on fire.

The narrator really sold this!

I read the paperback years ago and didn't remember being blown away by the story, but as Jennifer Crusie wrote a couple of my go-to books, I gave it another shot. It has a bit of a slow start that had me wondering if it was going to be a little too much of a downer. Well, it's a fairly serious story, but Andie's dialogue gives it that bit of snark that I love in a heroine.

I ended up being lost in the story and not wanting to put it down.

Narrator Angela Dawe was wonderful! I'd definitely listen to other books she narrates. Different voices for different people and none of them annoying.

There's a reason it's one of Audible's Best

Jennifer Crusie has written quite a gem of a story. It's been a while since I've been blown away by a superbly imaginitive storyline backed by a strong herione and other endearing characters and this story is certainly told with a refreshing and insightful voice.

Angela Dawe, my new favorite narrator, is the perfect voice for the spunky heroine! She's the type of narrator that makes me choose to listen to an audiobook that I probably wouldn't have listened to.

Fun, not really deep but still good

I love the voice of the narrator but she used 'she said' and 'he said' too much, even when not appropriate and I hate that. Makes a good story horrible in my opinion.

Beyond the "said" issue, the story is ok. It's fun, light hearted and not a deep read but entertaining.
