Publisher's summary

Lester Mayton is struggling to break free from his addiction. In his particular case, the drug of choice is religion. Now with his wife dead and city officials to blame, Mayton is out for revenge. In order to commit the atrocities necessary to spread his message of justice, he must change his ways and become the evil he has always abhorred.

Pittsburgh Homicide Detective Jackson Channing is struggling to break free from his own addiction. His alcoholism may have already cost him his marriage and now threatens to sweep away his sanity. Ever since he and his partner were brutally tortured by a sadistic murderer, his life has spun out of control. Following a failed suicide attempt, Channing decides his life must have some meaning and the only way he can put the pieces back together is to break free of his addiction and commit acts of redemption.

When the body of a city official is discovered in a public location, the entire city of Pittsburgh bears witness to a form of evil that is difficult to comprehend. Channing learns the killer is patient, methodical, and precise. In order to stop the killing, Channing - a former distance runner - will have to race to pull his life together and come to terms with a secret that is tearing him apart.

With each chapter of this thriller representing one of the 12 steps of addiction recovery, Measure Twice is a story of personal struggle, revenge, and the search for redemption.

Pay attention throughout this heart-pounding pursuit. The details are important because every cut is lethal.

The second time is just as good...

Where does Measure Twice rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Measure Twice is an excellent audio experience. I'll place it in my top 10 Audible favorites in the murder mystery/thriller/suspense category.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

In this novel, we find out almost immediately the who and the why but, somehow, Mr. Hensley has managed to keep the reader completely engaged and invested in the story.

Have you listened to any of Michael F. Cochrane’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've not heard Mr. Cochrane narrate other books. I think he did a very good job with Measure Twice.

Any additional comments?

J.J. Hensley's second novel, Measure Twice, was a sharp departure from his first in that we were not trying to solve a murder mystery, but delving into the motivations, memories, addictions, and emotions of each main character. There is more blood and violence in this offering as well when compared to Resolve, his freshmen novel. The violence is shocking at first because it is described so bluntly by the protagonist and is doled out in such an impersonal manner by the perpetrator. I enjoyed Measure Twice thoroughly and will listen again as well as recommend it to my friends.
