About this listen

After retiring and putting her own life on hold, Danielle became a caregiver and companion to her elderly Aunt May, a woman whose life had always been a mystery. Danielle never dreamed that her life would change so completely upon the discovery of an item in May's room.

The item revealed to Danielle both sad and unbelievable moments she could never dream possible. This discovery would eventually bring change to Danielle and give her the opportunity to look at her own life differently and to respect her aunt's life and privacy.

An enjoyable & heart warming story!

What made the experience of listening to Meeting By Chance the most enjoyable?

I loved the plot in this story. Listening to how things were way back when. It reminds me of stories my own mother has told me!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Fav character is Danielle. I love her role in this story. I even love the accented voice the narrator used for her (sounds like a Brooklyn accent). It was great how Danielle pieced together the different parts of May's life.

Which character – as performed by Denise Krueger – was your favorite?

Again, Danielle is my fav character. Great voice for her too! Very believable!!!

Who was the most memorable character of Meeting By Chance and why?

George's son George at the funeral. When he met with Danielle and handed her his father's last book before he died & it was inscribed to May. When Danielle read that it brought me to tears! Bring tissues!

Any additional comments?

Great little story with a big punch! Kuddos to author for a job well done. To put that much emotion in a little book is a gift every author dreams of! Good Job!!!

Beautiful, Heartwarming, Always Follow Your Heart

I really enjoyed this story. It had a wonderful message. Life is short and the road is curvy. Danielle, who's been taking care of her elderly Aunt May, stumbles across an old photo and an apology note from a mystery man from years ago. Although her aunt never married, she had loved and turned her back on love and tells Danielle to 'Always Follow Your Heart'. She also found Aunt May's diary and discovered all the sacrifices she had made for her family. This is a book I'd recommend listening to or reading.
I thought the narrator Denise Krueger did a fantastic job. I loved her dialect.
Another thing is that I really like this author's style. Jacqueline Coote is multi-talented and I look forward to more from both her and Denise. Great Job!

Meeting by chance

Danielle because a caregiver for her Aunt May and learned about her aunt snd her past. A lot of emotions paced into a short story. Some tears- happy and sad and a sweet twist. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

Follow love

At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to get in to this book but then the mystery began and I had to know what Aunt May was hiding. Turns out not only does Danielle discover Aunt May’s secret but she also learns a valuable life lesson from it. Loved being able to listen to it as I was driving, the kids enjoyed it too :)

Interesting Premise

Sweet little story that left questions. This is a very short audiobook. I loved the mystery of Aunt May's life, but have no idea how she pulled off the secrets for so many years. It's difficult to have an extended family and keep your livelihood or love life that far underground for decades and over 3 generations. I think Danielle cared for Aunt May, phyically and emotionally, but I suspect Danielle made her caretaking "choice" more out of guilt or obligation than love for her aging relative. Otherwise, Danielle would have known more about her aunt's substance, her drive, her liife -- not just that she liked flowers. I didn't buy the "private person" business to the nth degree. Danielle took the line of least resistence. She wasn't that old. She could have done more, earlier. Danielle didn't just retire from teaching; she retired from life, and while she was a caregiver, it was a pretty nice gig. Bills were paid; she had a place to live, and there were contingency plans. This middle aged woman wasn't juggling household duties and doctor appointments with the care of other family members or having to work. There was a hint of resentment she was stuck in a neverending duty that could have been openly acknowledged. I appreciate the fact Danielle finally got a life thanks to Aunt May. This book could have used the help of an editor. There are redundancies, situations and words overused within paragraphs, that detracted from the story, especially in audiobook format. The narrator did a good job. I received this book at no charge for review purposes.
