Publisher's summary

Please note that this audiobook contains explicit language and content some listeners may find distressing.

The memoir from the real woman behind the leopard print, for real women everywhere.

As one-fifth of the iconic Spice Girls and judge on X Factor and America's Got Talent, Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, has been an international star since the age of 19. And yet there are sides of Mel that no one has ever seen or really known.

Brutally Honest is an exposé of the struggles and acute pain that lay behind the glamour and success. With deep personal insight, remarkable frankness and Melanie’s trademark Yorkshire humour, this audiobook removes the mask of fame and reveals the mother, wife and daughter behind the Spice Girl everyone thinks they know.

The audiobook edition features narration from Melanie, her daughter, Phoenix, and her mother, Andrea.

Great inspiring story, loved it!

Mel B’s story is alarming, eye opening and inspiring. The book is narrated by an actress from Melanie’s local area of Leeds, who reads the story very well. I got through this book very fast, finding myself looking for extra minutes in the day to plug in my earphones and listen. She does not talk too much about her days in the Spice Girls, rather, her challenges growing up, and her struggles in her relationships with her lovers, family and friends (including the four other famous Spice Girls).

Life saving

The honesty that you go into. Every word is how so many women fell when we are in that position. How hard it is to get out of the situation. Thank you.

True to the Title

OMG!!! The secrets we keep to uphold the image the world expects of us. Mel B, aka Scary Spice, tells all. In this book, she opens up about her loves and her failures. But she is especially open and honest about the pain she experienced due to an extremely emotionally and physically abusive marriage. She talks about how and why she stayed and how she is recovering. As a therapist, I appreciate her honesty. Many times the family and friends of the abused can see it happening and don't know what to say to help the person and often feel betrayed when the abused returns to the abuser. Melanie opens many eyes to her why. NO ONE, woman or man should suffer this kind of abuse and it should be a crime to gain financially from that abuse. I am glad she is healing and that she is away from this individual, though she is still fighting him in court.

MUST READ FOR ALL WOMEN YOUNG OR OLD!

Blatantly honest, emotionally raw, superbly written and narrated. A testament of courage to overcome limitations. Struggling with very public judgements, yet through it all, becoming the person of your dreams and the success that followed.

Lamentable

Like most of the celebrity memoirs this one is sad and sometimes painful to hear. Naïvety, youth with early fame and dysfunctional lifestyle creates a perfect storm for a number of celebrities. This one is no different. Enjoyed the book.

You can't put it down, such a strong brave woman.

Amazing true story. She truly is an amazingly strong woman. She's a survivor! More women should read this book, just to be empowered!

IT'S WORTH READING...

I was never a HUGE spice girl fan, but then I don't think that I needed to be to reading this book. I feel like she was honest about most of her stories, but held back a lot of details. The narrator was really good bringing the story to life.
