Publisher's summary

When your partner betrays, what are the first steps to picking up the pieces of your shattered heart?

Many unsuspecting people wake up every day to discover their loved one, the one person whom they are supposed to trust completely, has been living a life of lies and deceit, because they suffer from a disease: sex addiction. This is a disease shrouded in secrecy and shame.

This is your go-to guide for what to do when you discover your partner is a sex addict. Each chapter is based on frequently asked questions by partners, such as: "Should I Stay or Should I Go?", "Is This Going to Get Better?", "How Do I Set Boundaries and Keep Myself Safe?", and "What Should I Tell the Kids?"

A Must Read

This book provides much insight for both parties. I found that I could relate to most of the content. It is supportive and motivating. I plan to keep it handy as a resource for difficult times and situations.

This book is a counselor on pages

I loved how the book covers so many aspects of the trauma that one can go through when their spouse betrays their trust through unwanted sexual betrayal. It makes it clear it’s not the partners fault and there are clear understandable explanations about why the betrayer does these things, the root, the responses etc. I feel like so many questions have been answered!

exactly what I needed!!!

this is a must-read step-by-step manual for anyone with a sex-addicted spouse. I cannot recommend this book any higher. My only regret is that I did not find it a year sooner while going through the agony of discovery

Excellent resource-thoughtfully organized

This book has been incredibly valuable as I travel this path. It explains so much about how I feel but didn’t understand. It explains logical steps to move forward and a thorough reinforcement that I’m not to blame, but can only progress through finding peace within myself. Great advice compiled from numerous leading researchers in the field.

must read!!!

I couldn't put this book down. It had everything in it that I have been wondering I've been thinking I've been questioning and been experiencing. It had so many thoughts to put with the struggles. Even in therapy these have been hard points for anybody to explain. This book does an amazing job of bringing you through a lot in the process. It has definitely helped my process!

Not Sure About Other Reviews

In the book, the author states repeatedly that one person’s addiction is NOT the partner’s fault and the partner cannot control it. Not sure how people got that the author is alluding that the partner of the addict is responsible for the addiction.

A much needed read, I no longer feel alone.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is feeling lost or alone as a result of discovering your significant other’s sex addiction. For over a year I felt lost and went through many of the stages mentioned in this book. After multiple attempts to work things out, I decided to move on and it felt scary, I was not prepared and didn’t feel ready to make such a big decision. Chapter 13/15 did a wonderful job at helping me understand where to start, and now I am prepared to go on a long needed journey with myself. I will definitely listen to/read this again as there is so much more helpful information in many of the chapters to aid in moving forward from a painful spot anyone going through a similar situation has been going through. The narrator Deb Thomas did phenomenal in setting an insightful and comforting tone as the author meant for it to be. Thank you.
