Publisher's summary

The Selection meets Reign in this dazzling trilogy of interwoven novels about three girls on a quest for freedom and true love from number-one internationally best-selling author Richelle Mead.

In the second installment of the number-one New York Times best-selling Glittering Court series, Richelle Mead goes beyond the glitz and glamour, delving into the dark, political underbelly of their world through the eyes of one girl who dares to fight for her freedom.

A refugee of war, Mira was cast out of her home country and thrust into another, where the conditions were inhospitable at best. In a life-altering twist of fate, she is given the chance to escape once more, and she takes it, joining the Glittering Court.

For a select group of girls, the Glittering Court offers a shot at a life they've only ever dreamed of, one of luxury, glamour, and leisure. But for Mira it means further persecution, not only from her fellow Glittering Court jewels but from her suitors as well - men she would potentially be expected to give her life to.

By day she goes through the motions, learning the etiquette and customs that will help to earn her anonymity, even making a couple true friends in the process, the forthright ladies' maid Adelaide and the ambitious laundress Tamsin. But by night Mira hatches a different plan entirely - one that, if exposed, could get her hanged in the highest court of Adoria.

Midnight Jewel is the extraordinary story of a girl with few options who courageously forges a new path, finding love, passion, lifelong friendships, and maybe even a way to freedom.

Jeweltastic

Enjoyed immensely, loved it being told by another character who had been a real mystery to me.

An Okay Sequel

I didn’t enjoy this story as much as I did the first one. There were times it was hard to really get into it I just had to struggle and learned just to finish it. I did like the character of Grant, and I didn’t mind the protagonist in the story but her life got boring at times. I’m not sure why I felt this way because it was very action-packed. Maybe it was just how Kyla read the story?

I will say that it it was nice to see the point of view from one of the other members of the glittering court. In the first book you find that she’s sneaking out at night but do not know the reason for it. You discover it in this book.

Loved it!

Even better that the first. And the narrator was also incredible! I can’t wait for the next one in the series to be released!

Not my normal type of books but loved them

I don't usually do romance story lines but really enjoyed this series. Loved having the same story told from three points if view. Would love if we could get a short novel letting us know how the next year of their lives played out and if the glidering court still went on or if other adventures where a result of the mess of events that happened here.

I can't wait for the 3rd!!

I just finished listening to both the first Glittering Court and Midnight Jewel in less than 10 days. I couldn't stop listening, they were both fantastic. I love how the two stories intertwine and you see different perspectives. I'm dying to know what is in Tansin's letters - I'm assuming we will find out in book 3. I'm a relatively new Richelle Mead fan but her character development and imagination is unmatchable!! At times it's almost hard to believe it's fiction vs history. 5 stars!!!

absolutely loved this story from start to finish

the story line takes off right from the start from Mirahs POT after Hearing Adilade's in Glittering Court. I absolutely love this story and have listened to it twice now and caught so many details I missed the first time. Will listen to it again in a couple months when I finish another series!

Great narrator, great story I couldn't stop listening, finishing it in one day. I love that it's the sane story but with different girls.

It's Richelle Mead. One expects no less.

Read in one sitting! I had been looking forward to this book for so long, and it didn't disappoint. Even if the plot has inconsistencies, you can forgive them because Richelle creates believable characters and explores great themes. That being said, her plots contain a lot of complex elements, too: politics, mystery, fights... Her books feel real in ways others don't. You can't pitch these novels as "heart-pounding thrillers" or whatever advertisers like to say; they're subtle and quietly worm their way into your heart. I can read this when I need comfort, inspiration, or relaxation.
