decent introduction but short

To me, the book is a little light on content. Just a few short chapters. In the end it's intended as an introduction to mindfulness meditation and it shows. You won't immediately learn how to relieve stress and live worry-free from this book, but it does give a few handholds to get on the path towards that goal.

It's a decent enough stepping stone to get into the meditation habit. It offers a few techniques, and a few suggestions on how to sit. And every chapter ends with a recap.

If you want to figure out what mindfulness meditation is, and whether it's something for you, you could get this book. It's cheap and does offer some explanations, but it doesn't delve very deep into the subject.

The narration is good, I wish it included a guided meditation session.

Practica, useful guide

As someone who has always wanted to learn about mindfulness, this was just what I needed. This was a wonderful introduction to mindfulness. Many of us are plagued with negative, useless thoughts which get us nowhere and lead to destructive actions like over-eating, smoking, etc., so this audiobook helps to shed light first on destructive behaviors, then on the need for mindfulness, and then on how to actually practice the art. Once you’re convinced of your need for mindfulness and you accept its value in relieving stress, anxiety, and depression, then you -- the discriminating audience -- will be able to appreciate the techniques for its practice.

Fortunately, it’s quite succinct and packs all the essentials in an easy, quick listen. The tools are simple, and I was able to IMMEDIATELY start the practice of mindfulness. If you want to start practicing mindfulness, this is definitely a good place to start. The narrator was also excellent – calm, pleasant voice.

Highly recommended!

Great introduction to Mindfulness

This short intro gives you the tools to get started. I plan on listening to another of the author's books, Letting Go, as well. Enjoyed her easy style and explanations.

Great info but lacking work

Lots of information regarding the topic. It would be better with at least a few actual sessions.

No Nonsense Helpful Way to Gain Mindfulness

Where does Mindfulness for Beginners rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In terms of mindfulness books, it's at the tippy top. I need something quick, easy to understand, and simple. This book was all three.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Me! I was able to begin a mindfulness routine right away!

What about Tia Sorensen’s performance did you like?

I loved the narrator, she was crystal clear.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was impressed that I could begin a mindfulness practice right away, without any prep time or complicated instructions.

Any additional comments?

The best part of this book was that it didn't over-complicate what is a very simple inner process, something that happens in the mind. There are periods of instruction, but it is not a moment by moment meditation audio. The author has a number of other books, so a guided meditation might be among them. I plan on listening to her book on letting go too. The sample included with this audio book was terrific. I was given this book for an honest review.

Good basic outline of mindfulness.

I liked this short book very much. As someone who suffers chronic pain, I have practiced various forms of meditation for many years and personally I find mindfulness the most effective. This book provides a good basic outline of the principles and practice. The narration is pleasant.

A realistic approach to meditation

I thought this was a really good book. I've read a few books on meditation because I am interested in incorporating it into my life. What I liked about this book was that it points out that (for breath focus), you may sometimes let the focus on what type of breath you are taking become consuming. For example, many of the books I have read and the demonstrations I've seen have talked about the importance of taking deep breaths. However, if your breathing is tight or rapid, this book tells you to let it be what it is. Eventually it will probably settle into deeper breathing as you relax. The book also stresses thinking of meditation as exercise - you don't work out once and become buff. It happens over time, just as the benefits of meditation will happen with practice. I thought this book had a lot of good information and good examples to help understand what meditation is and what it can do.

I listened to the Audible audio version of this book narrated by Tia Sorensen, and I enjoyed her narration. She has a very calm and clear voice that is pleasant to the ear. I don't think I've ever listened to anything she has narrated before, but now I want to check out more of what she has done.

Overall, if you're interested in meditation, this book is very practical and REALISTIC. Too many times we start a practice only to quit because we are frustrated that we are not seeing results, or its too hard. This book makes the practice of meditation seem doable.

Good book for this beginner.

Started looking into mindfulness per Dr recommendation. I've been getting myself acquainted (diy style) for a week. I'm not healed completely, but I'm on the way, I feel so much better. Thank you for this book, I think this has helped more than anything else.
