Publisher's summary

The letters arrive unsigned. The writer demands that Penelope meet him in one of London's most ill-reputed and darkest streets. When she dares to keep the assignations, she encounters a man in a black mask who leaves her breathless from his stolen kiss. Yet he claims the reason for their surreptitious tryst is an honorable one. Should she believe him? Can he be trusted?

Lovely, endearing book, fun mystery

If you could sum up Miss Penelope's Letters in three words, what would they be?

Such a fun book! This book is about Penelope, a housekeeper who receieves letters, gets involved in a mystery, and is rescued by a mystery man. I loved that the story masterfully combines mystery, romance, and is so visually written that you can see the scary streets.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Miss Penelope was a prominent character, but Miss Mae did suh a great jpb of writing all the characters I enjoyed them all

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this book in one setting!

Not a story....needs some chaanges

I didn't think I had written my reviews down and I didn't think I had listened to it yet. I found my reviews so I'm posting. This isn't a a story, it's only an hour or so long. I've said it and I'll say it again, it's not a story! This should have short story, prequel, or novella on it somewhere. I know this is only my opinion.

This story was better than the other I had listened to hit its still set in the same type of places as her previous short stories. I think some change would be better instead of writing about the same type of place. It was filled with mystery, intrigue, and it kept me immersed. (less)

Short and fun melodrama

Where does Miss Penelope's Letters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Miss Penelope's Letter's is sitting up there with the audio books I have listened to more than once!!

What did you like best about this story?

The high drama and mystery played out well. I enjoy intrigue in stories and Miss Penelope's Letters had it in buckets! The melodrama was accentuated by the tone of voice and expression used by Marcus Hyde. His performance style certainly suited the story.

Which scene was your favorite?

For being a short story it has plenty of great scenes to competing to be my favourite. However, the confrontation between Lord Wellington and Penelope on the moonlit terrace and the subsequent fight between Wellington and Soldier was a suspense filled scene.
I also enjoyed the scenes with Mrs Ashbury as I thought she was quite funny. She added lots of humour to the story.

Penelope has been hired on as a housekeeper in a wealthy household. She has not been there long when letters begin arriving addressed to her, but unsigned.

The letters ask her to meet the sender, but it is always at night and definitely not in the most reputable part of town.

Penelope is intrigued (what girl wouldn't be?) but she is also cautious and skeptical.

One brief but amazing kiss has her wondering just what she has gotten herself into.

This audiobook is short, but the author manages to pack a lot of story into a brief time.

There is mystery, there is romance, there is history and politics and there is lots of intrigue.

I enjoyed the fact that the story focused mainly on the mystery aspect and kept the romance aspect to a minimum. Sometimes, less is more as it is with this audiobook.

The narrator does a pretty good job of most of the voices in this book, but one voice (the voice of Charlotte) does not seem to match the character. She is supposed to be a fairly young, unmarried woman, but the voice he uses makes her sound the same age as the voice he uses for Charlotte's mother. But... that is just my opinion. Other than that, I think Marcus Hyde has done a good job with pacing and he speaks clearly which is much appreciated by the listener.

All in all, I rate this short novella audiobook as 4 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Engaging historical mystery short story!

Miss Penelope's Letters written by Miss Mae is an engaging short story of intrigue and mystery. The story centers around Penelope who is rescued one night from an attack by pirates by a handsomely masked soldier. That same soldier later sends her a letter requesting her help without letting her know it is for the utmost of noble causes (to rescue and nurse young boys who are being kidnapped and sold into slavery). She can't resist the temptation of seeing her soldier one more time. It is good clean fun finding out who the soldier is.

I listened to the Audible version of this book narrated by Marcus Hyde who did a fantastic job, keeping me entertained throughout. He had different voices for each character, both male and female. He also had a way of portraying "soldier" such that he sounded very sexy and smoldering. Great job! I received a copy of this audio in exchange for a review.
