In the unbearable heat of another sultry Washington, D.C., summer, a serial killer is on the loose. Dr. Tess Court, one of the capital’s most successful psychiatrists, wants nothing to do with the case—until the police convince her to lend a hand to the lead investigator, legendary ladies’ man Detective Ben Paris. Scarred by his family’s history, Ben has even less use for shrinks than Tess has for him—but the forces of animal magnetism and a shared desire to catch the demented criminal known as “The Priest” inexorably erode the walls they’ve built.

Caren Gray manages Belle Vie, a sprawling antebellum plantation that sits between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, where the past and the present coexist uneasily. The estate's owners have turned the place into an eerie tourist attraction, complete with full-dress re-enactments and carefully restored slave quarters. Outside the gates, a corporation with ambitious plans has been busy snapping up land from struggling families who have been growing sugar cane for generations, and now replacing local employees with illegal laborers. Tensions mount when the body of a female migrant worker is found in a shallow grave on the edge of the property.

After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

so Interesting!!!
I love the story very intriguing. Even though it was a short story, well done. You have to listen or read the death series from the beginning (naked in death) . Readers complain about not liking this one or others series. They didn't have this person in or its to gruesome or she should have a baby. Cm on readers give it a rest. Just enjoy!!!

One of my In Death favorites
This one starts with such a compelling mystery and the brevity is possibly why it's so good! Great to see Eve doesn't ALWAYS find and cage her suspect! Recommended for any In Death fan!

Still I remain fascinated by this series.
A ferry full of tourists, a missing dead body and a missing woman send Eve Dallas and Peabody to the scene on the ferry. Twists and tangles lead the homicide team (along with Roarke) canvassing various residences in New York City as it soon becomes apparent they are following deliberate bread crumbs. Fascinating for me to listen (read in ebook previously) as Susan Ericksen narrates with appropriate flare the well-known voices of Eve, Roarke, et.al. as well as the many other voices involved in the solution to the missing and to a tale of "justified" revenge."

Meh
I'm not a fan of these short ones but I feel compelled to buy them anyway, especially if I don't have anything else to listen to and need my Dallas fix. This was ok. Not bad, not great but it will help if you're jonesing for a Dallas/Roarke mystery.

Missing in death
This was not as good as the others. But I love Eve and her family and friends. Wish Eve get pregnant and learn to love how a child should be loved. Peabody and Ian get married and start family too.

Missing in death
enjoyed this short in death story. The bad guys aren't all bad and the dead ones are probably better off that way. Eve makes some hard decisions. Fascinating throughout.

Missing in Death
This was a good short read. I just loving this series, it's good to know that one of those involved in unspeakable acts of the past got their comeuppance. Excellent narration.

Good story, great narrator.
I love all the voices that Susan Ericksen can do. She can talk in the characters voice and you know who exactly it is without the “Roarke said, Peabody said, mcnab said and so on”. That is great narration.
