Publisher's summary

Did Moonlight murder his own lover? Or has he been set up to take a fall of biblical proportions?

Some years ago, Moonlight Falls, the first novel in what would become the 2015 Thriller Award- and Shamus Award-winning best-selling hard-boiled detective series was first introduced to the world. Since then, seven Dick Moonlight noir private detective novels have been released to great acclaim. But now, for the first time ever, a longer, grittier, sexier, more dangerous, more romantic version of the original pilot episode is available. It represents the author's original dark vision and the desperate, if not paranoid state of mind he was in when writing it.

In Moonlight Falls, best-selling author Vincent Zandri asks the question, "If you knew your life could end at any moment, how far would you go to prove you murdered your lover? " Albany, New York, is the dark setting of this paranoid thriller about Richard "Dick" Moonlight, former APD detective turned private investigator, who believes he killed Scarlet Montana - his illicit lover and wife of his ex-boss, Chief of Detectives Jake Montana. Problem is, despite the blood on his hands, Moonlight doesn't remember what happened!

For fans of best-selling noir, hard-boiled mystery, and romantic suspense writers like Robert B. Parker, Michael Connelly, Lawrence Block, Don Winslow, and Charlie Huston.

Unbelievable

Here is a book that lives up to every standard that a mystery novel should. Excitement love murder this book has it all. I like it because it’s the way it should be for mystery box. The writer and the narrator become part of a whole.
The writer and the narrator did such a good job my thanks to them. I would recommend this book to one and all for I did not ever lose interest in the 10 hours it took me to listen.

Darkly suspenseful

This is a great introduction to a damaged, but strangely compelling protagonist. It's twisty and darkly suspenseful with quite a surprising ending.

Andrew B. Wehrlen performs satisfactorily with just a couple of mispronunciations.

Fun Detective novel

Moonlight Falls was an entertaining book. It isn't the most serious or realistic and its protagonist Dick Moonlight can be a bit of
an idiot sometimes but still somehow comes off as likeable and entertaining. The story is interesting enough and keeps you entertained throughout. It is similar to Vincent Zandri's other detective novels in the Steve Jobz series in tone and feel, so if you like those you will like this as well. The narration by Andrew Wehrlen was great as always, he is a very dependable narrator.

Overall it was a good start to a series and would recommend if you like detective series.

Great Read

Moonlight Falls (Richard "Dick" Moonlight #1) was a great read by Vincent Zandri. This is a book set in Albany, New York. It is a paranoid thriller about Richard "Dick" Moonlight, a former APD detective turned private investigator. He believes he may have killed his lover and the wife of his ex-boss, but he doesn't remember what happened. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Collaborator, patsy, head-case!

The habitual bed-hopping by our intrepid investigator Dick Moonlight may have reached its pinnacle. In this revised and reissued volume, Moonlight finds himself embroiled in the murder of his most recent bed partner. Said bed partner was the wife of Albany’s Chief of Investigators and the investigation is headed for a through white-washing. With Moonlight’s bullet-impaired thought process, he secretly wonders if he had anything to do with her murder. The obvious suspect is the husband and the current white-washing seems to support that theory. Although the husband’s recollection of that night is also impaired, only with alcohol. So what did happen to our victim Scarlett? Suicide seems to be a ridiculous notion but that’s the easiest motive to invent. There are hints and whispers of Russian mob involvement, so the plot thickens. I was touched and saddened by the love Moonlight realized he felt for Scarlett, and perhaps in return from her. Sort of an unrequited love affair. Moonlight is ironically hired as an independent investigator and charged with corroborating the cover-up. What Moonlight finds is more disturbing than anyone could have imagined and may yet blow-up in his face. Dick Moonlight; part-time collaborator, big-time patsy, full-time head case. I love this character!

This is book one in the series but I had listened to later books so was aware and already loved Dick Moonlight. This book just added to that affection!! At 10+ hours, this may seem like a long listen but so many things happen, and kept happening, that your mind was in constant motion. Loved it!!

Moonlight has his flaws (many, actually) but he's still the proverbial good guy in the white hat. This time he needs to find out if his lover was murdered by her husband or if she committed suicide. The mystery was well-written and you absolutely could not and would not guess what happened until the very end. That's just great writing!!!

The narration is stellar and consistent throughout and is definitely one aspect of what makes this a great listen.

A Flawed Hero

Dick Moonlight is a loser, suicide survivor, and all-around Bad Decision Maker. However, his heart is in the right place (at last) and he's trying to do the right thing, finally. The book does go on and on, and Moonlight has more than his share of bad luck and powerful enemies. Still, he does his best and by the end, all is revealed. Looking forward to getting into the next book!

Good Story & Series

In this we meet Dick Moonlight, his life is on a tight rope with who he is sleeping with, his partner married his ex wife, and life in general. The question needs to be answered, he is a retired cop, and a PI. Good reading, hope it continues more along the PI line. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
