Acerca de esta escucha
From two leading experts in education and entrepreneurship, an urgent call for the radical reimagining of American education so that we better equip students for the realities of the 21st-century economy.
Today more than ever, we prize academic achievement, pressuring our children to get into the "right" colleges, have the highest GPAs, and pursue advanced degrees. But while students may graduate with credentials, by and large they lack the competencies needed to be thoughtful, engaged citizens and to get good jobs in our rapidly evolving economy. Our school system was engineered a century ago to produce a workforce for a world that no longer exists. Alarmingly, our methods of schooling crush the creativity and initiative young people need to thrive in the 21st century.
In Most Likely to Succeed, best-selling author and education expert Tony Wagner and venture capitalist Ted Dintersmith call for a complete overhaul of the function and focus of American schools, sharing insights and stories from the front lines, including profiles of successful students, teachers, parents, and business leaders.
Most Likely to Succeed presents a new vision of American education, one that puts wonder, creativity, and initiative at the very heart of the learning process and prepares students for today's economy. This audiobook offers parents and educators a crucial guide to getting the best for their children and a road map for policymakers and opinion leaders.

He met teachers in ordinary settings doing extraordinary things. Capturing bold ideas from teachers and classrooms across America, What School Could Be provides a realistic, and profoundly optimistic, roadmap for creating cultures of innovation and real learning in all our schools.

Historia
In Free to Learn, developmental psychologist Peter Gray argues that our children, if free to pursue their own interests through play, will not only learn all they need to know but will do so with energy and passion. Children come into this world burning to learn, equipped with the curiosity, playfulness, and sociability to direct their own education. Yet we have squelched such instincts in a school model originally developed to indoctrinate, not to promote intellectual growth.

Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn. In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. We listen to opinions that make us feel good, instead of ideas that make us think hard. We see disagreement as a threat to our egos, rather than an opportunity to learn.

Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

In this delightful yet profound book, he looks at how we learn to talk, to read, to count, and to reason, and how we can nurture and encourage these natural abilities in our children.

Historia
Microsoft President Brad Smith operates by a simple core belief: When your technology changes the world, you bear a responsibility to help address the world you have helped create. This might seem uncontroversial, but it flies in the face of a tech sector long obsessed with rapid growth and sometimes on disruption as an end in itself. While sweeping digital transformation holds great promise, we have reached an inflection point. The world has turned information technology into both a powerful tool and a formidable weapon.

As we go about our daily lives, there is a little voice in our minds that’s always asking, “What about me?” Maybe your voice says, “When is it my turn to be noticed at work?” or “When will someone in this family do something for me?” That voice may be whispering to you about your finances, your job, or your friends, but it is always encouraging you to think about something you don’t have. And sadly, social media and culture in general lead us to focus on this world’s concept of happiness and success—but does it work?

Wow! Amazing Book
I read a lot of nonfiction on various subjects and I am not easily impressed. This book was beautifully written, richly researched, and expertly narrated. It made a thoroughly convincing argument that education reform is desperately needed in our country. The book offered countless tangible solutions. I highly recommend man this book to educators and parents and learners, and anyone else who cares about the future of our civilization.

Long on Analysis. Short on Solutions
A very good analysis of the craziness of education but at the end of the day it will still be a race, and those who are lucky and take advantage of their privilege will be ahead.

Life changing read...
This book will definitely be on my retread list! I
There are so many parts that I must go back to listen to again, as I want to incorporate them into my reimagining my daily work with educators. Undoubtedly, my work as an educational leader will be impacted for the better by having read this book! I'm fearful, yet elated for the change that I hope to have on others working with our children. There is truly promise and significant substance contained in the pages of this book. Thank you, Dr. Tony & Dr. Ted!

Profoundly sobering and inspiring
Anyone who finishes this book and remains unconvinced that everything must change in our approach to teaching our kids, then well, you must be brain dead.
This is also a brilliant summary of how we got here and the bureaucratic momentum we have to overcome.

Can't wait to share!
Most Likely to Succeed put into words what I know to be true. This book captures the heart of my educational philosophy I wrote 15 years ago in my first teacher prep course. For so long, that philosophy has felt more like a longing, a dream because it certainly hasn't been a reality. But...I believe I will see a time when children will create and learn in school and a time where learning is valued more than compliance. Thank you for this book of inspiration!

Good book about reimagining education
This book does an excellent job of describing the problems ailing education today and does give some insightful recommendations through examples followed by other institutes. The shortcoming of the book is the organization and lack of clear plan of action that make it hard to remember the best takeaways from the book. If you are looking for a place to start your journey to reimagining education, this book is for you
