Resumen del Editor
In Dorothy Gilman’s best-selling mystery series, loveable grandmother Emily Pollifax has captured the hearts of millions with her secret CIA missions.
Mrs. Pollifax, Innocent Tourist whisks the gray-haired agent into a perilous web of intrigue that spreads across the drifting sands of the volatile Middle East. An old CIA friend, Farrell, must collect an inflammatory manuscript smuggled out of Iraq into Jordan. Farrell has a simple request for Emily—provide cover during his trip to Jordan by posing as his fun-loving elderly cousin. But before the plane even lands, danger begins stalking the sprightly Mrs. Pollifax.
Outwitting her wily opponents with her keen eye for the truth and her impeccable karate, Mrs. Pollifax is the lively senior citizen everyone dreams of someday becoming. You’ll feel you know the aging spy and her colorful opponents personally with Barbara Rosenblat’s outstanding narration.

When Aline Griffith was born in Pearl River, New York, in 1923, one might have guessed from her exceptional beauty that a career as an actress or model might be in her future. Few would have imagined that twenty-one years later, she would find herself in Spain as a deep-cover OSS agent, infiltrating the highest levels of Spanish society, or that five years later still, she would marry a Spanish grandee and become one of the most watched, most admired, most fascinating women of international society. This is the story of Aline, Countess of Romanones, a story of courage, beauty and success that is far more exciting than any fictionalized thriller.

From that moment on, the shy young woman finds herself doing all kinds of things she never thought possible. Between newfound intimacies and a risky journey into the past, Amelia comes to see herself in a whole new light. The scrawled note drives Amelia to find out what happened to the person who wrote it, identified only as “Hannah.” Who was Hannah? Was she really murdered? Somehow, I never read this one of the series. Farrell has a need to go to Jordan and wait for an unknown contact to rescue a last manuscript for a friend who died in Saddam Hussein's prison. But he needs a plausible cover and Emily is the only one he trusts to go with him. Add in terrorists, camels, and the historical site of Petra to make this an engaging and gripping mystery.
This falls into historical fiction even though it was written in 1997.
The wonderful narrator Barbara Rosenblat really makes it even better!

Great
Farrell was a crybaby in this book a few times. Thanks Mrs. Pollifax for ignoring that!

I just love the Duchess!
I have read all of Dorothy Gilman's books, but it doesn't stop me from listening to them on tape over and over. I look forward to long commutes as long as I have a great story to listen to.

Not so Innocent
I enjoy the way Mrs. Pollifax always finds her she in a predicament and that she always finds a way out. 68y/o and kicks butt with the best. I was hooked on the series from the first book.
Dorothy Gilman is a wonderful narrator
