Publisher's summary

Winner of the Newbery Honor, My Brother Sam is Dead brings the Revolutionary War to life in this contemporary classic for young adults.

The classic story of one family torn apart by the Revolutionary War

All his life, Tim Meeker has looked up to his brother. Sam is smart and brave, and is now a part of the American Revolution. Not everyone in town wants to be a part of the rebellion. Most are supporters of the British, including Tim and Sam’s father.

With the war soon raging, Tim knows he will have to make a choice between the Revolutionaries and the Redcoats, and between his brother and his father.

Bad audio

The story is great, a classic. However, the audio was very quiet and difficult to hear. I had to have it at full volume and still strained. An updated version would be appreciated.

Easy listening book

Read this several years ago. Very sad, but I enjoyed the story. I am an adult, but there is nothing childish about this book. Good read.

Another excellent book this year

We loved this book as a family and loved the narrator. Voice that is easy to understand and interesting to follow along with the book. We had several great conversations about this book.

Not recommended

An interesting story, well read by the narrator, but way too much swearing! I found it offensive.

I love this book!

If you like and Adventure books this is what I would recommend for you this book has action adventure. It gives you a little history lesson as well. I wish though it would tell what happens to Tim's family.but I still give it 5 out of 5 stars because I love the storyline

Okay book, poor audio quality

This was required reading for my fifth grader. The audio quality was poor and I ended up reading it aloud to him myself.

Good story, some profanity.

Good telling of a family during the Revolutionary War era. Had some foul language that made it not suitable for listening by my 9 year old.

Just kept listening

I'm rating this for my 12 year old son who just kept listening to the book. He loves historical fiction and this book was no exception. I downloaded it on a whim for him and he sat for close to the entire time just listening to it! 4 hours of grabbing a 12 year old boys attention says a lot in my opinion.

tough listen!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I teach this book, so I picked this up in order to keep it fresh in my mind while driving. However, I find the reader's voice to be so shrill that I can't listen for more than a few minutes!

What did you like best about this story?

Great storyline.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Yes!

Did My Brother Sam Is Dead inspire you to do anything?

I teach it to my 7th grade.
