Publisher's summary

Best-selling author John Grisham stirs up trouble in paradise in his endlessly surprising new thriller.

Critic reviews

"January LaVoy's expert narration engages listeners.... She finds outstanding, distinctive voices for the various charismatic characters - from writers to academics to FBI agents. The sardonic edge to the dialogue includes all those involved in the book business, and LaVoy appears to enjoy their parties and conversations." ( AudioFile)

Hummmm

As a true Grisham fan, I got the book on the first day of release and searched for time for the next two days to listen. I didn't find the main characters as likeable as in his other works. At times, it bordered on incredulity with the recruitment of a struggling writer as a major investigator. I still enjoyed the story and read (listened) in two days. My enthusiasm deflated when the book ended. Grisham let me down with an ending that was about as exciting as a popped balloon.

Ready for next one

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was hesitant after reading some of the reviews but I wasn’t at all disappointed. The story kept my interest, had enough plot turns to keep it flowing, and was well-written, classic to his other books. I loved the narrator, who had a great style and held my interest, as well as helped me see what the story conveyed. My next step is to look for more books narrated by her.

fun quick book

it was not as action-packed as some prior books published by John Grisham. The story was worth the listen.

A good book.

This was a surprising story from John Grisham and not like his usual books. I enjoyed the characters.

This can't be John Grisham

Sounds like it was written by a woman, and even if Grisham managed to capture a woman's voice well, there is not way he wrote this book! Odd details, very little suspense... both my husband and I would say, "NO WAY this is Grisham!" at the same time.... It is very so-so story. If I were reading it I would have wandered off and not returned. The narrator is okay, not so good with the males parts.

Very Dissapointing

Slow, quite verbose with few interesting plot points. I expected much more from Mr. Grisham given his past accomplishments.

Not a Mystery or Thriller

True, I didn't read a description of the book before I purchased it. The story was ntertaining enough, but nothing special. I ultimately didn't care for any of the characters and found the ending anticlimactic.

Expected more from Grisham

I am a John Grisham fan and enjoy his books, but this one is pretty weak on the premise. All the details are there, the research and little points that make the book good, but come on - the broke author going "under cover"? I liked the info on the publishing world and the colorful characters, but I was disappointed.
