Publisher's summary

Handpicked by Rhys Bowen, Jasmine Blackborow is the dazzling narrator for the 12th installment of Rhys Bowen's best-selling Royal Spyness Mystery series.

Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live.

Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. With Darcy off in parts unknown, Georgie makes her way to Eynsleigh alone, only to find the grounds in disarray, and the small staff suspiciously incompetent. Not to mention the gas tap leak in her bedroom, which is beginning to look like an attempt on her life. Something sinister is afoot - and bringing the place up to snuff may put Georgie six feet under before she even gets a chance to walk down the aisle....

Mixed bag but Bowen carries the day!

Rhys Bowen once again demonstrates why she is an award winning author. Fans of Georgie are going to love the newest adventure as she plans for her marriage to Darcy. In her typical fashion, Lady Georgiana innocently goes about life as an impoverished heir to the throne – albeit 36th in line.

The search for a home for the soon-to-be newlyweds meets a giant bump in the road when her benefactor makes the offer of his home, a large country estate. Seems a great gift until her arrival at the estate. The house and gardens are a mess; the house, sparse; the servants hopeless! In her usual fashion Georgie stumbles on a mystery which nearly proves fatal!

With the aid of her usual companions – her Grandfather, mother, Queenie, Belinda and Darcy – Georgie carries on, providing an entertaining romp of a mystery which unravels satisfyingly.

The biggest mystery of all was whether Georgie and Darcy would make it down the aisle and into wedded bliss. Certainly seems the fates are against it!

The disappointing part was the narrator. She was not good at all. Her character portrayals were inconsistent - as was her accents. Set aside Ms. Blackborow's performance and it is still enjoyable.

Another wonderful Georgie tale. Thank you, Ms. Bowen!

Transitions can be challenging

This is the first book with the new narrator after the untimely death of the wonderful Katherine Kellgren. First off, the story is fine: Light, fluffy and enjoyable. I will admit, though, I hadn't realized until this book how very much Katherine's vocal skills enhanced these charming stories. She made Georgie a thoroughly and believably charming, albeit somewhat naive, young woman who somehow stumbles through life, always landing on her feet. Now, in this book, Georgie through the tones in her voice comes across as somewhat spoiled and entitled. I can only imagine how hard it must be for a narrator to step into someone else's shoes, and I will give Ms. Blackborow another go in the next book, but I hope she can recapture some of the charm that makes Georgie so darn likable. I will say, however, the voices for many of the other characters were close enough that I quickly adapted to them, and Ms Blackborrow's interpretation of Queenie is by far less grating on the ears, IMHO.

Not sure about narrator

I love, LOVE, these books. Katherine Kellgren was a gift to us all, I'm not sure another narrator will ever be able to fill those shoes. Trying for an open mind, but, I despise the way the pronunciation of the family home is different in this book. The new reader has the inflection on the wrong syllable. After SO many books it changes now?? I call foul. Otherwise, the story is good and I will continue to listen to the series.

Love, love, love this series

The new narrator, not so much. Why has our sweet Georgie turned into such a whiner and a bit of a snob? I am not sure Jasmine Blackborow understands Georgie as she has been portrayed previously. Too bad. May have to continue series actually reading for myself!

Worth the Wait

I loved this book. it kept me on the edge of my seat for most of it. as for the new narrator, she's not Katherine but she does a fantastic job.

Loved it!

I was a bit worried about the new reader but Jasmine did a great job with this book. I also liked where Rhys Bowen took the characters, quite a bit of character development. I really enjoyed this one and can't wait until the next in the series.

Good Story but

The narrator doesn’t do such a great job voicing all the characters or in her pronunciation.

Yeah! Her Royal Spyness does it again

Super duper addition to the witness series. Yes I miss and rip Katy but Ms. Jasmine will carry the mantle quite well. I can't wait to see what the future holds. Maybe Darcys new assignments could be for a dynamic duo, in between births of course. All in all the listener will be pleased.
