About this listen

A canine Search and Rescue volunteer fights danger and finds love in the Pacific Northwest wilderness in this riveting #1 New York Times bestseller from Nora Roberts.

To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.

On Orcas Island, Fiona has found the peace and solitude necessary to rebuild her life with her three loyal Labs. But all that changes on the day intensely private wood artist Simon Doyle barrels up her drive with an out-of-control puppy, desperate for her help.

As Fiona embarks on training Jaws, and Simon begins to appreciate both dog and trainer, the past tears back into Fiona’s life. A copycat killer has emerged out of the shadows, a man whose bloodlust has been channeled by a master with one motive: to reclaim the woman who slipped out of his hands...

Critic reviews

"[T]he romance is finely done, with Roberts's trademark banter lighting up the page. Fiona and Simon are the main attraction, but the setting and the supporting characters - with paws and without - provide a vivid backdrop." (Publishers Weekly)

“Search-and-rescue dogs are a focal point of this wonderful tale of love and adventure. Roberts has a marvelous ability to blend in the perfect amounts of character drama, realistic romance and chilling suspense. The result - an unputdownable read! Roberts again proves why her name is synonymous with excellence.” (RT Book Reviews)

“Strong romantic suspense.... The serial killer subplot is not new, as the copycat has been done before, but Nora Roberts makes it seem fresh with her incredible writing skill as she uses the Search and Rescue canines as key elements in the exciting story line. Readers will enjoy Ms. Roberts’ entertaining Puget Sound thriller.” (Midwest Book Review)

Great Story

I found the story to be delightful. Just enough of a thriller to keep the romance from being tedious. I loved the relationship between Fiona and Simon. They're non-sappy dialoge reminds me of my husband and me. I learned a few pointers for training my next puppy. (I was NOT the alpha dog.) Both serial killers were creepy and scary. I want more stories with dog training as a bonus.

To Sappy

I think I would have liked this story much better with a different narrator. This one was much to sappy I guess is the best word. This mystery was mediocre and so was the love story.

Easy Read

Unlike some of the reviews I enjoyed this book ??? it was light and easy to listen to while driving. It is your typical Nora Robert???s books, reminded me somewhat of her other book the Black Hill. This one deals with Fiona Bristow a dog trainer that also leads a Search and Rescue Team. She has moved to an small island off the coast of Washington to escapes her past with a serial killer. In comes Simon Doyle ??? neither wants a relationship with the other ??? in comes a copy cat serial killer .. book and ending are very predictable. My biggest complaint is with the narrator ??? in the beginning of the book she read very choppy however by the end that seemed to smooth out somewhat.

Kind of predictible

This was a good book but the main male hero was an ass. Not in sweet endearing way but in a what the hell is wrong with him kind of way.

eh, ok

This book had some good moments, but there was a lot of needless reading. The narrator is great! Which helped the storyline along.

Engaging story with odd narration

I enjoyed the story but it was somewhat painful listening to it. The narrator has an odd cadence or manner that is hard to endure. At first I thought it was an unusual affect for a specific character but realized it was the narrator's own affect that was somewhat akin to uptalking. Very distracting and irritating. I usually listen to my Nora Roberts audiobooks more than once. I could barely make myself finish listening to this one the first time.

Its Worth Reading If You're A Fan of Nora Roberts.

For me, the dogs and the knowledge introduced into the story kept me coming back 'til the end.

Held My Attention

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes. I would scale down the detailed, intimate descriptions of the sex scenes. They were excessive and redundant.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspects were the interactions of the principal character in her work with the dogs. Then the love relationship as it began to build -- minus excessive descriptive verbiage Also the build-up of the tension as the serial killer got closer.

The least interesting were the long, detailed descriptions of the redundant sex scenes. It was a love relationship that was coming into fruition and was romantic, but I felt it could have been handled in a more "delicate" manor.
I'm no prude, but I felt the descriptions were excessive. Perhaps others would enjoy hearing them though. Your choice.

What does Tanya Eby bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Perhaps a more "visual" understanding of the "atmosphere."

Could you see The Search being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yeah, it could definitely show up as a move or TV series. Have no idea for the actors.

Any additional comments?

Nope!

Enjoyable thriller

Really enjoyed this murder mastery thriller, with romance in it. I like that she always encorporates artistic people. Really liked the narrator also.
