"'You knew they were there, didn't you?' Kahlan asked in a hushed tone as she leaned closer. Against the darkening sky, she could just make out the shapes of three black-tipped races taking to wing, beginning their nightly hunt. That was why he'd stopped. That was what he'd been watching as the rest of them waited in uneasy silence.

"'Yes,' Richard said. He gestured over his shoulder without turning to look. "There are two more, back there." Kahlan briefly scanned the dark jumble of rock, but she didn't see any others. Lightly grasping the silver pommel with two fingers, Richard lifted his sword a few inches, checking that it was clear in its scabbard. A last fleeting glimmer of amber light played across his golden cape as he let the sword drop back, in place. In the gathering gloom of dusk, his familiar tall, powerful contour seemed as if it were no more than an apparition made of shadows.

"Just then, two more of the huge birds shot by right overhead. One, wings stretched wide, let out a piercing scream as it banked into a tight gliding turn, circling, once, in assessment of the five people below before stroking its powerful wings to catch its departing comrades in their swift journey west. This night they would find ample food."

What an adventure.

The story in this book was much better than the last, in my opinion. I loved the build up and plot but I the ending was a bit lacking as far as epic. It was still creative and fit well with Richard and the crew.

The Naked Review

Again, This narrator is the worst. It's like listening to a toddler's bed time story. Additionally, I'm really getting tired of Richard and Khalin/Kallin. Thier love story is begining to make me roll my eyes. It doesn't add to the story. The fighting, or strategy in this book was more fantasy than people having magic! Giving this 3 stars is Good-Kindness on my part. If I get a great deal... I may read book 9.

This book started of a bit slow but it was worth the wait. glad that this book kept me wanting to listen to the next book.

This one was a bit long winded and multiple times information was repeated. Too wordy and not enough action.

Slow for first 2/3 of the book

I have enjoyed this series thus far, but this book was annoyingly slow and nothing happens until the last 1/3 of the book. The earlier part of the book is all talking redundantly about philosophies and back story that we already know about from the previous books. The last part of the book was good once things finally started happening in the story. The audio was well performed.

The Sword of Truth has always had an underlying political message, it's very obvious in this book.

This book was very hard to put down. It pulls you in with every action taken.

A few speaking errors but great job.

At 12:22:15 instead of zed he says jed. There were a few others I found two. This is just the first one I recorded.
