Publisher's summary

Orphan Black meets Lord of the Flies in this riveting new thriller from the coauthor of the Virals series.

It's been happening since Min was eight. Every two years, on her birthday, a strange man finds her and murders her in cold blood. But hours later she wakes up in a clearing just outside her tiny Idaho hometown - alone, unhurt, and with all evidence of the horrifying crime erased.

Across the valley, Noah just wants to be like everyone else. But he's not. Nightmares of murder and death plague him, though he does his best to hide the signs. But when the world around him begins to spiral toward panic and destruction, Noah discovers that people have been lying to him his whole life. Everything changes in an eye blink.

For the planet has a bigger problem. The Anvil, an enormous asteroid threatening all life on Earth, leaves little room for two troubled teens. Yet on her 16th birthday, as she cowers in her bedroom, hoping not to die for the fifth time, Min has had enough. She vows to discover what is happening in Fire Lake and uncovers a lifetime of lies: a vast conspiracy involving the 64 students of her sophomore class, one that may be even more sinister than the murders.

Critic reviews

"Min is not your average 16-year-old. Every two years on her birthday, she's murdered. And every two years she comes back, completely unharmed. She's tried to escape the inevitable but knows it's only a matter of time before the man in black returns for her. Now things are getting worse, with an asteroid headed toward Earth...[j]ust when she's found that classmate Noah is having the same strange experiences she's tried to keep hidden.... Hooked readers will be tapping their fingers waiting for the sequel." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

"There are many overworked adjectives for action books: page-turner, fast-paced, intense. For this book, multiply all of them. Reichs truly keeps readers guessing throughout, with twists on early every page." (Booklist, starred review)

"Min is a self-assured female protagonist, and Noah is a refreshingly complex young man...[t]his fast-paced exploration of the teen condition is recommended for lovers of science fiction, video games, and New Age dystopia." (School Library Journal)

Excellent and Diverse Trilogy

Every book in this series is amazing in vastly different ways. Like mystery novels? That's the first book. Like action and violence, similar to Lord of the Flies? Second book is for you. How about straight up Sci-Fi? That is what the third book gives you. The transition from one genre to the next is so seamless and exciting, and it is what makes this series as good as it is.

Great Sci-Fi!!!

With a slow start, the story the ramps up to a really exciting and suspenseful story line. A wonderful premise makes me anxious to see how it unfolds in the follow-up book!

intense Teen Dystopian Scifi Thriller

This book covers equally Scifi and dystopian genres. It's a great What If? novel. it's pretty intense and lots of violence but inherent to its plot.

Amazing plot line

This story was very enjoyable, kept me on edge, and did not disappoint in answering the questions that arisen throughout. Pretty lengthy, but not too wordy. Highly recommended!

Way to thrilling for that kind of ending

Honestly the story had potential, but then the ending seemed rushed and didn’t do the built-up story line any justice.

Love Hate Relationship with this book

Nemesis has one of the best openings where Min is killed...only to wake up later in a remote part of the woods. She has no idea why it's happening, who the person killing her is, or what she has done to deserve the horror in her life. But she trudges on as best she can with her best friend at her side. But then things start to get even weirder. The earth is standing on it's last leg, and it's up to Min and her trusty sidekick to figure out what is going on, and fast.

I so wanted to love this book, and I will say the performance is on point! The book is divided between a female and male reader, and they both did a great job on narrating. However, the end of the book is what cut it for me. Without trying to give it away, there is a second book coming as it leaves it on not necessarily a cliffhanger, but there is much more to the story left unsaid. I can totally handle a cliffhanger...I hate them, but I can handle it, especially if it's a good one. But in Nemesis, I just became very infuriated that it ended in the way it did. Will I continue to read the series? Sure, because I want to know what happens, but at the same time what really was going on is just a little too mainstream movie for me. I did love the characters, and each was portrayed nicely with their own strengths and weaknesses. That being said Nemesis was a good book, and I did enjoy it until the truth became known. Again, too mainstream for me, and I have a whole bunch of unanswered questions rolling around my head. It's still a good read, and I do recommend it.

Happy Birthday!

This audiobook caught my attention right from the onset. I have to admit at times it did slow but not enough to hinder the progress of the book. It has it all, conspiracy, secrets, natural and cosmic disasters and let’s not forget death and regeneration! Yes, that is correct regeneration. Oh and the characters are pretty awesome too. We have a cast of very different characters who all play a crutial part of the story. The only thing that beats the premise of this story is the way it was presented and told. There is a duel POV between main characters who have a completely different personality and outlook on life. They are also from opposite sides of the money spectrum. The pictures the author creates really give you a good idea of what is going on, however, it leaves much to the imagination behind closed doors and this is what drives the story. At parts during the middle of the story it did drag a bit but there is a big payoff at the end of the book. The reveal is perfect enough to give you some closure but makes you click furiously to buy the next audiobook. This is a triple narration and is done wonderfully. There is one narrator who was tasked with reading documents and transcripts. He does great at presenting the info in just the right way to avoid over acting. There are just a few chapters of this sprinkled throughout the story. The 2 main narrators were so precise in tone that I was just as excited to hear each of them. They both kept it consistent throughout the story and voiced each other’s character great too as to not skew my imagination. Overall, a great experience that will surprise you along the way. Definitely moving forward with this series.
