Nicole Lamoureux, President and CEO of the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) shares her passion for change and what it means to be a disrupter

  • Summary

  •

What do uninsured people do when they can’t afford insurance? Nicole Lamoureux went on a mission to find answers to that question. After a diagnosis of inflammatory breast cancer at age 33, Nicole, who had insurance and access to care, realized she would also need to deplete her 401K.

In the midst of her diagnosis, Nicole made some major life changes one of which was to leave her job to find an opportunity that would allow her to advocate for the healthcare of others.

This quest led Nicole to the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) where she became their Executive Director in 2007 while undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Fast forward to today where Nicole is the President and CEO of NAFC and has helped the organization grow from 75 clinics to 1,400 clinics, and 200,000 volunteers. Their mission is to build healthy communities for all through quality, equitable, accessible healthcare. Some of the ways they create accessibility are by setting up services in places that communities have access to such as libraries and public transportation sites.

Nicole reminds us we can all make a difference and even what we consider a small donation can have a great impact!
