About this listen
“The master of suspense and intrigue” (Country Life) is back with the next powerful installation in the Dick Francis series, perfect for fans of Harlan Coben and Michael Connelly.
Theo Jennings, an auctioneer in Newmarket, England, has been climbing the ladder at the bloodstock sales company for the past three years. He’s planning on making his first ever multi-million sale with a yearling colt. When he finds the colt dead a few days after the auction, Theo is suspicious that there was foul play involved.
As Theo begins to investigate the death, he finds that answers aren’t coming readily from those who he questions. When a person’s body is discovered in the same stable a few days later, all fingers point to him. As his world turns upside down with the accusations, Theo decides to further his investigation.
The only way to clear Theo’s name is to find the real murderer, but it isn’t just the police who have their eye on him—the killer has a target on his back.

The catastrophic power of a giant hurricane can raise coastal waves 30 feet high and blow through houses at devastating speeds. For TV meteorologist Perry Stuart, however, such predictions are hypothetical, as he chiefly predicts periods of English drizzle - until a fellow forecaster offers him a Caribbean hurricane-chasing ride in a small airplane as a holiday diversion. But a frightening accident teaches Stuart more secrets than wind speeds.

Story
Architect and family man Lee Morris never gave much thought to the shares he inherited of the Stratton Park racecourse, the multi-million dollar property owned by the powerful Stratton family. His mother had first received the shares to keep her quiet about the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her first husband, Keith Stratton. Now, much to Lee's chagrin, he is being drawn into the thick of the Stratton family squabbles as they wage a furious debate over the future of the race track.

Story
When reporter Bert Chekov falls to his death, his colleague James Tyrone is suspicious. Chekov’s column had recently recommended some ‘can’t-lose’ horses, who then wound up out of the running on race day. Tyrone thinks he can prove it was murder, but he may not live to tell the tale. Because as the dead man has already made clear, there’s no such thing as a sure thing...

Intrigue and twists galore
I loved the inside scoop on the world of auctioneers intertwined with greed and unscrupulous money grabbing.

Not up to the standard of Dick Francis
I'm sorry to say that this book did not hold up to my expectations of Dick and Felix Francis novels. The storyline was very clumsy and the characters lacking in the sophistication I've come to expect from Dick Francis. I found it tedious from start to finish.

Typical Felic branches in a good way
It really is a typical Felix Francis book but I liked it a lot. I always like the stories about horse racing steeplechase things over in Britain. No big surprises. Good narrator. Well written.

Felix Francis is gaining on his father's lead
Felix Francis is gaining on his father's lead. I hadn't read one of Felix's titles in quite a while and was really pleased with his improved work. No Reserve is an entertaining story with a mystery worth solving plus interesting characters. Good narration carries it over the finish line in ribbon-winning fashion. I'm ready to listen to the next one!

Great Story But….
The story and insights into the world of horse racing was great. However, the use of such an elderly narrator certainly detracted from the presentation of the story! The voice and speaking style does not match up with characters in their twenties or thirties!

I keep getting his books, hoping he becomes his father
The story was good, but there were far too many holes in the logic and the characters aren’t developed all that well. I really wanted it to be better.
