About this listen

Simon learns about James Herondale's time at Shadowhunter Academy. One of 10 adventures in Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy.

It's hard to be a Shadowhunter when you've got demonic powers. Simon learns about the schooltime struggles of half-warlock James Herondale in this prelude to The Last Hours.

This standalone short story follows the adventures of Simon Lewis, star of the number-one New York Times best-selling series The Mortal Instruments, as he trains to become a Shadowhunter. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy features characters from Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments, Infernal Devices, and the upcoming Dark Artifices and Last Hours series. Nothing but Shadows is written by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan.

The best of the short stories so far!

This story is both hilarious and heartwarming. It's the shadowhunter world at it's best! I enjoyed the banter between the characters and hearing more about Will Herondale now as a father and not a lovestruck teen.

Bromance!

This book is seriously the very best of all the Tales from the Shadow Hunter Academy. The authors give us a glimpse of Shadow Hunter youth from centuries past and tell a tale so touching, you just can't help but love it. Nico Mirallegro is definitely the best narrator of all 10 stories as well... He needs to do more narration, great characterizations and emotional depth.

James Is the best! (Light spoilers about the Infernal Devices trilogy)

*if you have not read the infernal devices trilogy yet, do not read this book or this review if you do not want the story to be spoiled*

This is my favorite of the short stories from Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy. This story sheds light on Will and Tessa’s son James as he attends Shadowhunter Academy and struggles with some very unique problems of his own. I highly recommend this book, it is short but packed with information about the mysterious James Herondale and Matthew Fairchild relationship. Enjoy!

Another great story of Herondales and Fairchilds.

This Victorian short story is great for anyone who just wasn't ready to put down The Infernal Devices and leave the era behind.
