Spacers call the warp point Charon's Ferry. No star ship has ever entered it and returned since a vengeful Orion task force pursued a doomed Terran colonization fleet into it in 2206. Story
There he was in his sailboat in the middle of the Atlantic, all alone and loving it. Well, there was a US Navy carrier group on his southern horizon, but he was a Navy guy himself, so he didn't mind. Then came the UFOs, hurtling in from the Outer Black to overfly the carriers at Mach 17. Their impossible aerobatics were bad enough—but then they started shooting at each other, and at the Navy, with nukes. Little ones at first, but winding up with a 500 megatonner at 90 miles that fried every piece of electronics within line-of-sight.

Story
Imperial Intelligence couldn't find them, the Imperial Fleet couldn't catch them, and local defenses couldn't stop them. It seemed the planet-wrecking pirates were invincible. But they made a big mistake when they raided ex-commando leader Alicia DeVries' quiet home/work, tortured and murdered her family, and then left her for dead. Alicia decided to turn "pirate" herself, and stole a cutting-edge AI ship from the empire to start her vendetta. Her fellow veterans think she's gone crazy, the Imperial Fleet has shoot-on-sight orders. And, of course, the pirates want her dead, too.

Other human intelligent life, with terrifying new weapons and powers of the mind...and wizards who go by the strange title of ''scientist''.

The small island of Malaz and its city gave the great empire its name, but now it is little more than a sleepy, backwater port. Tonight, however, things are different. Tonight the city is on edge, a hive of hurried, sometimes violent activity; its citizens bustle about, barring doors, shuttering windows, avoiding any stranger's stare. Because tonight there is to be a convergence, the once-in-a-generation appearance of a Shadow Moon - an occasion that threatens the good people of Malaz with demon hounds and other, darker things....

Story
Their peace was a fragile thing, but it had endured for seven years, mostly because the people of Darassus and the king of the Naor hordes believed his doom was foretold upon the edge of the great sword hung in the hall of champions. Unruly Naor clans might raid across the border, but the king himself would never lead his people to war so long as the blade remained in the hands of his enemies. But when squire Elenai’s aging uncovers evidence that the sword in their hall is a forgery, she’s forced to flee Darassus for her life, her only ally the reckless, disillusioned Kyrkenall.

Overall a good read.
I originally bought this book for Kindle after having to give away my paperback copy due to moving. I decided to try it on Audible and I am glad I did. My only issue it with the Performance. Don't get me wrong, Nick Sullivan has one of the best narrative voices I have heard so far in listening to books. However he will sometimes misread a word or reword a sentence. If you aren't following along with your Kindle Book copy this can cause a bit of confusion.
The story itself it an excellent one that I continue to enjoy each time I read or hear it. Bahzell is larger that life in more that one way and I love the way he talks.
I highly recommend this book.

I was hooked as soon as the story began. The characters are fantastic, with good development. The narrator Nick Sullivan uses a wide variety of voices to separate the characters and keeps you wanting more. I highly recommend this story and narrator.

I'm glad I finally got around to this one!
This is a wonderful book that a friend recommended to me 2 years ago. I finally got around to it from my backlog. It took me roughly 4 days to get through, but that was more due to outside interface.
I like the story, the characters, the different take on fantasy tropes, and the way the world seems to function and develop in fun ways. At first, i did find some of the narrators choices for voices a bit questionable, but before too long, I found I had become accustomed to their choices (the pirate-ty accent of the main character, for example).
I would absolutely recommend this book to any fantasy enthusiasts I know. I have already picked up the next book in the series.

Great story that grabs you from the start
This may have been the only "pure" fantasy (vs urban fantasy) books I have read in a long while. I have read Weber's Reef series but that has a serious SF element. Not that I haven't read fantasy ever (100's of books disagree with that estimate) but it's not my primary genre.
I gotta say that I liked this book. The story kept me interested the whole way through and I turned around and bought the next book in the series right after finishing this one.
As to the story? It helps that it is an interesting world, populated by both the standard races (humans, dwarves, elves) as well as the unique (like our lead character and sidekick, who are hridani, a tall human like people with different ears). Bahzell is at his core a good guy, and therein lays the problem, as his tendency to do good gets him into deeper and deeper trouble. And then the Gods and Mages get involved....
I very much look forward to reading the next book.

Wasn't too Shabby
What made the experience of listening to Oath of Swords the most enjoyable?
Good Story few slow parts!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No
Any additional comments?
Ending felt rushed but rest of book was spot on. This book really gave you a feel for the world and its races which i'm sure will help with next few books in series.

Enjoyed
It's enjoyable. Nothing special but well written and well narrated. Good for long trips as the story flows easily around you.
