Story
A child’s wish for her father comes true. The end of the world has never been so much fun. Conquering personal demons becomes all too real. It’s not always about winning; sometimes it’s about showing up for the fight. It’s about loving your life’s work, and jobs that make you question everything. In this anthology, 17 authors have woven together brand-new stories that speak to the darkness and despair that life brings while reminding us that good deeds, humor, love, sacrifice, dedication, and following our joy can ignite a light that burns so bright the darkness cannot last.

In 1876, we were called to Savannah, Georgia to help with an infestation of demons. If we'd known what we, my wife Evangeline, and I, were walking into, we'd have run the other way. As it was, we shared tea with a vampire and stepped into a battle we did not understand until it was too late.

Story
My dog once took a bullet that was intended for me. A bullet that ripped through his chest, narrowly missing his heart, and exited through his shoulder blade. This left him unconscious on the floor of my home. Amazingly, this bullet did not kill him. Ten years ago, I adopted Blue after I broke up with my boyfriend one hot, early summer night with the windows open and the neighborhood listening. The next morning I went straight to the pound in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Articles on buying your first dog tell you never to buy a dog on impulse.

Story
Demonstrating once again her gift for spellbinding storytelling, Anne Rice makes real for us a great dynasty of four centuries of witches - a family given to poetry and incest, murder and philosophy, a family that over the ages is itself haunted by a powerful, dangerous, and seductive being called Lasher who haunts the Mayfair women. Moving in time from today's New Orleans and San Francisco to long-ago Amsterdam and the France of Louis XIV, from the coffee plantations of Port-au-Prince to Civil War New Orleans and back to today, Anne Rice has spun a mesmerizing tale.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Great story could do without sound effects
Sound effects take away from the story and are distracting from the story. For sure not needed

My favorite of the series
This may seem odd, as this book is like a side journey of Anita's, but this is my favorite book of the series. I love Edward and what he brings to the series, as well as Anita's relationship with him. The plot twists and turns, characters fully developed. This book keeps you guessing and on your toes. Narration is wonderful, as always, listen at 1.15 to 1.25 speed.

One of the most memorable of a memorable series
This book is excellent and tops off this first series arc with a bang! From the first, Anita has been trying to avoid or deny her talents and her connections with Jean-Claude and Richard. As she has grown in her powers, Anita has come to recognize that she is no more “human” than her guys. Maybe less. At least they started out ordinary human.
In this story, we get to find out about the mysterious Edward! And what a story! How great that he gets to grow and change, too. Donna, Becca and Peter are all imperfectly likable. Then we get a Supe that’s got everyone spooked - Edward, his bounty hunter colleagues, the cops; even Anita. And our edgiest Master of the City yet. Both the story and Anita wow from start to finish.
Alexis does a great job of narration.

Just WOW
This is the most amazing book of the series so far to me 💜 It gives the audience a much clearer picture of Edward. The pacing of the action and moving the story along was perfect to me. I love how Kimberly Alexis narrates. My only complaint about this particular audible is that sometimes the special effects or spooky music drowns out the narrating. But that problem is rare enough (and in my case I try to read along if I can anyway) it doesn't bother me as much as it does others.

Background music got to go
I cannot for the life of me concentrate on the music. Maybe it needs a different sound… idk but it’s distracting and off-putting

:) One of my favorites in the series
Would you listen to Obsidian Butterfly again? Why?
Yes, I would. I've re-read all the paper-bound books I have of the series, and this is one of my favorites. Being able to listen to it just amps the re-play value. Reasons for the favoriting include that I like Edward's character, and getting to see him developed further is a treat, and this is the last book in the series before Anita is drawn through an angsty growth spurt, so we've got a well developed feisty necromancer bad ass to champion through the slug fest/investigation
