Publisher's summary

Eighteen-year-old Devi Bennett is surrounded by mysteries: her unknown heritage, a recurring dream about an African tribal ceremony, an inexplicable attachment to a certain tree and a psychic ability she'll never understand - unless she finds her biological parents. Things take a shocking turn when she meets Baron, an intense and alluring energy healer who receives prophetic dreams which all seem connected to her. Devi must rely on an empath, a seer, and Baron to help research her roots to discover who she is and what she is capable of. But when Baron's visions lead to an ancient legend which may link to her birthright, Devi learns her gift is more imperative than she thought imaginable. Equal parts suspenseful and sexy, philosophical and adventurous, Order of Seven delivers a story that will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew about the hands that carry fate.

Big fan of audiobooks...

I read this book when it was first came out and loved it so I was excited to find out this was available as an audiobook. Enough time had passed for me to enjoy the story again. In my opinion the audio may connect more with the YA audience. As a 40 something year old, I enjoyed my voice for Devi more than that of the narrator. I don't think it would take anything from a first time reader of this book but if you normally don't read YA then the paper book would probably be preferable to the audio. Performance aside, I absolutely loved this book and I look forward to what's next from the author.

Another Way to Enjoy a Fantastic Story

I rarely listen to audio books, but loved reading Teliho's Order of Seven so much I wanted to give it a try in this format and I'm glad I did. Winkel did a fine job narrating the story; I appreciated the pace of her reading and how she gave voice to the different characters. I still prefer to read a book on my own, but hearing the story read by someone else allowed me to listen and pick up on different nuances.
As for the story itself, Order of Seven is one of the best things I've read in a long time for so many reasons. The story and characters are unique and help to weave a world into which you will want to disappear over and over. The tale is well told, characters well developed, and the takeaway messages about how we are connected to one another and our world are tremendous.
Overall, Order of Seven is a fascinating and highly engaging read, one you'll want to read or listen to in one sitting, so make sure you have enough free time set aside to indulge!

Fun supernatural young/new adult mystery

Would you consider the audio edition of Order of Seven to be better than the print version?

No - they are both good.

What other book might you compare Order of Seven to and why?

It is like the Hunger Games not in storyline, but in target age, new-adult/darker themes, and the elements of mystery and suspense.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love the first interactions between the male and female leads - usually sparks fly in romance but they are not literally sparks.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this story. I liked the interesting weaving of mystery throughout the plot. The characters are gripping from the start, and their connection with their powers was believable. The writing is witty and clever, with subtle touches I really enjoyed, and that often made me laugh. (The Jamies are hilarious.) And in terms of romance, this is one of the more purely sexy setups I’ve ever seen. In this book, the sparks do fly. Literally. And there is a balance of dark story also, balancing some of the lighter moments.

The author deals with several sensitive subjects with a total lack of fear. I am always wary of books centered around finding biological relatives and also those touching on native cultures (oh and race and religion too, no biggie) outside the author’s background, but Order of Seven treats these subjects with a reasonable deal of sensitivity and in a legitimate context of the plot, with only a few references that could cause discomfort.

The narrator is pleasant and clear - I enjoyed the audio performance.

Beth Teliho is a talented author and I am very excited for sequels in this world or whatever she decides to do next.

A Stunning Must Listen!

Would you consider the audio edition of Order of Seven to be better than the print version?

The audio is not better but is absolutely as good as the print version. Hearing it performed gives you a different aspect than what you hear in your head.

What other book might you compare Order of Seven to and why?

I would compare this to Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle Trilogy which has the same sense of mystery and excitement. It makes me want to open the door to find out what's hiding behind it.

What about Laurie Catherine Winkel’s performance did you like?

Laurie Catherine Winkel is Devi. Her voice is perfect for the young heroine of the story and almost exactly as I heard Devi in my mind's inner voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were moments in this book that made me hold my breath or made my heart speed up. I cried when Devi looked into the eyes of the elephant and when she met her father. There were many emotions I felt throughout this book and I thought Ms. Teliho did an outstanding job of evoking a rollercoaster ride of an emotional story.

Any additional comments?

Order of Seven is well written and a must read in print, but in an audio version it is simply stunning. Getting to hear what Devi *might* sound like is a great way to get further into the story. It brings her to life in a way the print version cannot do. This is a book you should most certainly put on your "to read" list.

A MUST have in all formats!

Would you listen to Order of Seven again? Why?

Beth Teliho captured my imagination with Order of Seven! The various cultures, the links between past and present, and the native legends all created a story that called me back until I finished the last page. I love a story that sparks my imagination, leads me away from the monotony of daily life, and takes me on an adventure. Order of Seven did just that!
I couldn't typecast this book into one genre because it offers a fantastic bit of many things in order to give you something to sink your teeth into and think about. I love a book that is multi-faceted!

The actor reading Devi's part was SPOT ON!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Absolutely riveted.

Any additional comments?

I was excited to read the Epilogue and look forward to reading what Beth has to share with us in the future, so I'll be keeping an eye out for the next available preorder!

Brought to life!

I loved the audio version of this book. I had already read the book but was very curious to HEAR the characters, especially Devi. I was not disappointed. The story took on whole new life and when you consider the written version was fantastic to begin with that says a lot. I anxiously await what comes next. Bravo, Ms. Teliho!

Incredible Narration, Story of Fantasy & Agnst

What was one of the most memorable moments of Order of Seven?

I felt that the explanation of the initial meeting between Baron & Devi was one of the most memorable moment's the author and narrator captured the essence of the moment and the power of young magnetic attraction to a T.

Have you listened to any of Laurie Catherine Winkel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to one other book narrated by Laurie Catherine Winkel, and her performance in this one is just as stellar. Very gifted voice artist.

Any additional comments?

Love love loved Laurie Catherine Winkel's narration of the book. In what might have otherwise seemed a tad below the writing standard I prefer, her voice and activation of the different characters and personalities was fantastic. Might need to work on that Aussie accent a bit, but otherwise she captured the heart of each character flawlessly.

Must Read!

What did you love best about Order of Seven?

I loved the story itself. The flow of the words, the realism, the complexity of the characters and the simplicity of the story. Honestly just everything!

What other book might you compare Order of Seven to and why?

I would compare it to the Divergent series because of the way the author constructed the characters. They were flawed and real.

Which scene was your favorite?

I love every scene Mapiya!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
