About this listen

Former bank robber Frank Palmer has been hiding from the law for years, creating a new life. The aging town sheriff has recognized Palmer but has promised to stay silent if the outlaw agrees to put his gun at the service of the law. It's a difficult challenge, raising his adopted son, building a ranch, while secretly hunting down the most lethal bandits upon request.

Although he wishes the world would forget his former gang, Palmer's old life has come back to haunt him. For some reason, a new gang is imitating the techniques of the old Colter Gang, reviving interest in his whereabouts.

A terse letter arrives for him, written on the back of his wanted poster, vowing to expose Palmer's identity unless he travels to Sacramento and offers his skills to the anonymous blackmailer.

With no other choice, Palmer meets his extortionist and discovers a plot more monstrous than any he has faced. A scheme dependent on his untimely death to succeed.

This is a continuation of the Frank Palmer Stories. It is a complete story and you do not have to hear the other books in the series to follow the non-stop action in Outlaw with a Badge. Although there are continuing plot elements, each story comes to a satisfying conclusion

Other books in the series include Redemption and The Hunt for Frank Palmer.

nice conclusion

Or is it? There's a few loose ends at the end of this story, so hopefully there will be more of Frank Palmer. The third book was just as easy to listen to as the first two. Narration was clean; story was good.

The Frank Palmer Westerns are Great Listens

The Frank Palmer stories are some of my favorites. The characters are great and each adventure is like taking a trip back into the old west. This, as well as the others are stand alones but I would recommend listening to them all. Stephen Wilson has a wonderful western style like no other.

J.Scott Bennett's narration makes this a fantastic listen. He has the best voice inflections and tone for this tale. He's a versatile voice actor and one of my favorites.

Loved it so exciting

This was an exciting listen that took be back in years when men were men, the dealth with issue with a gun, tipped their hats to women, they worked hard and played harder knew how to drink, fight and above all hold up the law. This years are my favorite of all time, if I could time travel it would be back to the hold west, hard work but so much better than the world today.

The narrator has for a few years become one of my favorite, I know when I see his name it is going to be an exciting listen filled with emotion, passion, he knows how to bring the stories to life as he puts his self into the role of the characters he really brings the story to life. There are no background noise, no volume change, if any breaks were taken I could not tell, it was a very clear audio that is filled with true emotion, energy, compaction, angry and so much more. His male voice are just as good as his female one, he really makes you feel what the characters fill. He never lets me down, I know when I pick up one of his audios I am in for a thrilling ride that I won’t be able to put down.

One man changed his world, just trying to do what he can to help those around him. Yes he did bad things, but he had little choice with no family he fell into the wrong hands that showed him how bad the world could be. I have to respect him for getting out and becoming a wonderful person. The author write this story he really brings the west back to life, I think it even has some true facts in it. He shows pain, sorrow, but still gives it humor and laughter. This is how in my mind I see the past of many years ago, he brings it to life in a touching story of how things were as he gives you a believable story that will touch your heart as it entertains you.

Hide in Plain Sight

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, it is a light fare Western with a slightly different twist to its premise. Good action, good conversation style to get the story to progress smoothly.

What did you like best about this story?

It had all the components: a man with a past, a woman who could be there for him IF they both could let it be. Temptation, bad guys who want to expose his secret. A bank robbery, trusty horses, barroom floozies, drunken cowbows, a blacksmith. Everything short of a guy with a limp yelling "Mister Dillon! Mister Dillon!" Lol

Which scene was your favorite?

The bank robbery action.

Who was the most memorable character of Outlaw with a Badge and why?

Frank Palmer. You want him to get the girl, go straight, earn a pardon.

Any additional comments?

This is just a good Western! J. Scott Bennett does an admirable job with conveying the author's characters and building the action.

Such a great series - highly entertaining

I am loving this series. This is the third Frank Palmer book I've read, and I'm really hoping for more. This book has mystery, action, and even comedy (when he walks into a law office and tells the officers that he is NOT the notorious bandit, just as a preventative measure). This is all set in a Western setting, and the storyline and characters kept me engaged to the end. I listened to the Audible audio version of this book, and J. Scott Bennett does such a great job narrating. I can picture everything he says in my mind, and he just adds so much to the story. If you like Westerns, I highly recommend this book.
