Publisher's summary

Persuasion, Jane Austen's last novel, is a tale of love and marriage told with irony and insight. Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth have met and seperated years before. Their reunion, after the passage or irrecoverable years of their youth, forces a recognition of the false values that drove them apart.

Hard to listen to, but good enough story

Narration varies too much in volume, and it is hard to listen to, even in the same paragraph. This is really annoying so it took me weeks to finish the book.

This love story is a criticism of vanity and judgamental misconceptions among high society. It is actually good, even with the main character's never ending sadness.

Jane Austen never disappoints.

Greta Scacchi‘s performance was superior. She successfully brought each character to life. I am going to listen to it again!

Greta Scacchi brings story to life

This wonderful Austen story benefits greatly by Greta Scacci's dramatic interpretation of the characters, including the comically exasperating sister Mary, pompous father Sir Walter, and simpering Mrs. Clay. The story is more introspective, and its main character Ann more steady and reserved than Austen's other heroines. Thankfully Scacchi gives her inner thoughts and longings the vibrancy they deserve. So excellent, I hated to hit the pause button.

My personal favorite

Jane Austin could write Wall Street advert drivel and I would read it with delight, because of her ability to gently, see and record human nature. Persuasion is thankfully, completely devoid of 21 century sensibility, in that it's about vastly unpopular options such as, forgiveness and understanding and being able to admit when you're wrong.
It's about second chances and humility and listening. All ideas considered virtues in by gone eras, tho' never exercised often enough. Thank you Jane.....

Reads slow

It read really slow. It had a lot of awkward pauses. Other than that it was ok

Lovely!

Austin’s genius is carried deftly by the narration. Listen and fall in love. Highly recommend.

Read brilliantly

The reader infused the dialogue in ways I would not have, had I been reading the book. I loved it & will look for her elsewhere.
