Resumen del Editor

The captivating and unforgettable saga of the Dollanganger family continues in Petals On the Wind, the New York Times bestselling sequel to Flowers in the Attic and the inspiration behind the Lifetime original movie and “tortured love story” (Variety).

Forbidden love comes into full bloom. For three years they were kept hidden in the eaves of Foxworth Hall, their existence all but denied by a mother who schemed to inherit a fortune. For three years their fate was in the hands of their righteous, merciless grandmother. They had to stay strong…but in their hopeless world, Cathy and her brother, Christopher, discovered blossoming desires that tumbled into a powerful obsession. Now, with their frail sister, Carrie, they have broken free and scraped together enough for three bus tickets and a chance at a new life. The horrors of the attic are behind them…but they will carry its legacy of dark secrets forever.

You can’t go back

I did not like the narration. I loved this book as a kid many years ago but it has lost something over the years…

I swear the girl loves everybody

Love the book. She lets her anger lead her (which, honestly, I can’t say I blame her on that part) and I think every choice she makes centers around that… except when she tries to get the professional life she wants.

Oh Cathy!

Reliving this story as an adult is wild!! Around every turn I’m cringing at the reckless decisions Cathy makes, like using her sexuality as a manipulation tactic to get whatever she wants from literally any man, including her father like figure, Paul (well at first). She weaponizes her sexuality because she doesn’t know any other way to live (not like her mother was a good example) and she’s driven by nothing but revenge, Her flaws are so frustrating! 10/10 here for it.

Voices

I like the best is when she changes her voice per each character. The end seemed to Rush a bit

Amazing Narration

The story itself touched on some topics that can be triggering but it does a great job of addressing topics regarding abuse and trauma. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Joy Osmanski narrating as Mena Suvari narrated the first book but I loved how she had a unique voice for each character, and whenever she’d read parts for Carrie and other younger characters, it sounded exactly like her voice for Jing on Duncanville.

A very good sequel

This book picks up where flowers in the attic ends. Then perfectly jumps years ahold. While there are something I didn’t honestly like. I really did like this book overall.

A bit more disturbing through adult eyes

I read the Dollanganger series several times as a teenager and loved them. It was still very enjoyable to listen to because it was so “cherished” when I was younger. However, I am now horrified to understand that of the four major loves of Cathy’s life, literally all of them either raped her or hit her….and all are supposed to be “wonderful” men. This would never fly in 2023, and that’s a good thing. Still, great trip down memory lane.
Narrator was decent, but affectations of the male voices was difficult to stomach

Enjoyed narration and sometimes couldn’t believe different characters were voiced by same narrator!

Well that was disturbing

Very well written. Completely draws you in. But boy is the content disturbing and twisted.

Also, the narrator sounded familiar. It kept reminding me of something and then it finally clicked. When she is doing the voice of Cathy as a teen, she sounds like Jaclyn white from the unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Once you hear it, you can’t unhear it. I had to envision her as the character for half of the book so now you get to as well. You’re welcome.
