These traits could all be signs that your child is highly sensitive. While being highly sensitive is a personality trait rather than a psychological disorder, your child may develop other disorders, such as anxiety or depression, more easily. Millions of parents, tired of following advice that either doesn’t work or simply doesn’t feel good, have embraced Dr. Becky’s empowering and effective approach, a model that prioritizes connecting with our kids over correcting them. Parents have long been sold a model of childrearing that simply doesn’t work. From reward charts to time outs, many popular parenting approaches are based on shaping behavior, not raising humans.

Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.

Story
When facing contentious issues such as screen time, food choices, and bedtime, children often act out or shut down, responding with reactivity instead of receptivity. This is what New York Times best-selling authors Daniel J. Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson call a No Brain response. But our kids can be taught to approach life with openness and curiosity. When kids work from a Yes Brain, they’re more willing to take chances and explore. They’re more curious and imaginative. They’re better at relationships and handling adversity.

Story
The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

High sensitivity is a personality trait that may not be common, but exists in 15 to 20 percent of our population. They are ordinary people, but highly sensitive people (HSP) or highly sensitive children (HSC) may just have some particular needs not shared by everyone. Having a highly sensitive child may be challenging for parents, and many have searched for resources on how to take care of them. This audiobook is the product of my own experience of taking care of a highly sensitive child.

Love the book really appreciate the audio version!
I have both read and listened to this book. It’s a great resource both practically and emotionally. I go back to specific chapters for reminders and I actually find listening calming and reassuring when my emotions are pushed. It’s like having a fry to talk to and support me through the challenges to keep going in the positive loving direction that has become my goal! I’m over social and institutional judgements and focusing on understanding and adapting! This book is life changing! Thank you Jonathan!
