Heart Wrenching and Beautiful at the Same Time

Eloisa James is an automatic download for me. I love her writing,however, the reason I didn't give the story 5 stars as I thought the hero very abusive. I wondered at times why the heroine even bothered. Each of her characters have much more depth than a lot of other writers in the genre,though. I cringed sometimes at what the hero would say to the heroine.

Of course, Susan Duerden is fantastic! There are not enough superlatives to say about her voices. I always know when she is changing to another character.

I would definitely use a credit on this book.

Never ending

The story was ok but should have been much more concise. It just felt like it would never end and was overly dramatic. Frankly I would never have forgiven the earl the first time let alone the next two. I was not at all a fan of the male lead by the end of the book.

Good but..............

This book was very good although I found myself grinding my teeth with anger as Charlotte kept telling him she only slept with him and he keeps putting her off and saying it is his brother. For God sake man, think!!! If he just thought hard enough, he would have realized that and stuff would have been a lot better but it did make the book interesting. Then again, this book was very long for no reason!

The Pains of True Love

Rich, well-developed characters along with a wonderful storyline have produced a memorable book. I love all of Eloisa James’ books and this is no exception. The characters are so real and I became so emotionally attached to them, enjoying their love and suffering their anguish. Of course I recommend this!

Susan Duerden has enhanced the book by her masterful narration. A true delight.

Storyline was aggravating

I was so aggravated that Charlotte let Alex treat her like crap over and over again and kept going back to him. I wanted to yell, “stop letting him silence you when you try to explain how you lost your virginity to him, already!!”

Loved it!

Wonderful story ... although I wanted the H to grovel more. more groveling was needed. MORE GROVELING. I'm just saying.

Meh.

I wanted to enjoy this book, and I wouldn’t say that I completely hated it. However, about halfway through I became irritated by Alex’s insecurities. I believe this may just be due to a personal pet peeve with insecure men; not all listeners would be in agreement with my feelings but this accounts for my rating on the story. As I said, this isn’t a bad novel, I quite enjoy Eloisa James’ other stories, I just had a difficult time with this particular one.

It's defiinitely a great story! annoying at some points because you just want the heroine to shout the truth but kept me addicted! very well performed. well written!

Good but frustrating characters

What made the experience of listening to Potent Pleasures the most enjoyable?

Interesting story. I wanted to keep listening even though frustrated the lovers couldn't seem to communicate.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Alex when he wasn't angry at Charlotte.

What does Susan Duerden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She brought Alex's sexy voice into my head. I could never have imagined it myself.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

They just need to have a long, honest talk at the beginning.

Enjoyed the story for the most part but was frustrated that the main characters couldn't seem to communicate. Of course, if they had there would be little story.

A total delight!

Praises for this was wonderfully characterized story, so detailed and complex. Loved how three-dimensional all the characters were—main and even minor characters. Totally loved the interweaving storylines and sub-plots. Entertaining all the way to the end. Highly recommend!
