Publisher's summary

Introducing a major new thriller writer—in the vein of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor—and an electrifying character, Dewey Andreas.

A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

While the intelligence and law enforcement agencies scramble to untangle these events and find the people responsible, the mysterious figure of Alexander Fortuna—an agent embedded into the highest levels of American society and business—sets into play the second stage of these long-planned attacks. The only fly in the ointment is Dewey Andreas—who is using all his long-dormant skills to fight his way off the platform, then out of Colombia and back to the U.S., following the trail of terrorists and operatives sent to stop him. Power Down is a gripping, compelling debut thriller from Ben Coes, a powerful new author, an amazing talent certain to join the ranks of the genre's finest writers.

Power Down is terrific! With a gripping story, compelling characters, a relentless pace and nerve-wracking suspense, Power Down is one of the must-read thrillers of the year. Don't miss this debut of novelist Ben Coes and the introduction of Dewey Andreas--you'll devour this one and wait anxiously for their return.” —Vince Flynn, New York Times bestselling author of Pursuit of Honor

“A ripping thriller from an exciting new novelist. Power Down kept me glued, turning the pages. Lots of action, a terrific hero, and a slimy villain--thrillers don't get any better.” —Stephen Coonts, New York Times bestselling author of The Disciple

Right wing politics at its best

I’ve never read anything by this author . I’ve certainly made mistakes with other books written by religious zealots and never finished them . Mr Coes’ book has a decent premise ; interesting even . The ridiculous political posits that only serve to make the author look silly are replete through out . These are more tasteful to me than the racism . Mr Coes makes no bones about his ignorance when it comes to the Middle East and the issues that have their genesis in that location. The culpability of any tragedies that have happened , not only in this country , but throughout the world , are shared by the west as well.
As a New Yorker there is nothing that has mystified (read annoyed ) me more than our ability to linger and harp on 9/11. Lessons need to be learned but nothing will be learned by living for vengeance or some ill conceived notion of geographical or cultural profiling . Unless we’re willing to examine our own misdeeds .

Many Turns to End

Very busy start. Too many people and places to keep up with. When it finally comes together, you can't put it down.

Power Down was electric!!!

Where does Power Down rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Power Down might rank as my all time favorite audiobook, even beating my Tom Clancy classics.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

My patriotism sucked me in at the formation of America's Energy Company, while I was on the edge of my seat with every unexpected twist in the plot.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Dewey goes all in, even though he wants to get out.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I've already purchased the next 3 books in the series.

Any additional comments?

A great read, though I didn't like the times when the terrorists won "a battle".

This book ruined my sleep!

If you love realistic thrillers this will be the best book you have listened to in a long time. I could not put this book down! Great characters on both sides, very real possible threats to humanity, deep insight into the thinking and emotional state of patriots and terrorists, and tension you cannot believe. I gritted my teeth for many hours during this book waiting for the justice I felt we deserved, cursing the author many times. Well written story that looks beyond the black and white of good and evil we wish were true and uncovers the more complex truth of terrorism.

Excellent story and narration

I found this book generally very realistic and interesting and I enjoyed it and spent too much time devoted to it! I also felt that the narration was excellent and I will look for this narrator on other books in the future.

Terrific!

Enjoyed the story, the pace, and the characters. Can’t wait to read the next book on series. Narrative was great though I did speed it up a bit.

Great first attempt

I've been looking for a new writer as I've read/listened to all Brad Thor as well as Vince Flynn books. and finally i think i found the Writer, it's Ben Coes. His hero, Dewey Andreas is my type of here, not perfect but tough. The book was great, although the Offshore bit was a bit alien to me. I've got North Sea experience and i couldn't understand how this rig was set up, but that is just a minor detail. The narrator, Peter Hermann is just fantastic, he made the characters so alive it was scary.
