NOW AN APPLE ORIGINAL SERIES FROM APPLE TV+ STARRING JAKE GYLLENHAAL

From #1 New York Times bestselling author and hailed as the most suspenseful and compelling novel in decades, this story brings to life our worst nightmare: that of an ordinary citizen facing conviction for the most terrible of all crimes.

Rusty Sabich, family man and the number-two prosecutor of Kindle County, is handed an explosive case—the brutal murder of a woman who happens to be his former lover. A shocking turn of events suddenly transforms him from the accuser into the accused... and plunges him into a nightmare world where nothing seems real and no one can be PRESUMED INNOCENT.

It's the stunning portrayal of one man's all-too-human, all-consuming fatal attraction for a passionate woman who is not his wife, and the story of how his obsession puts everything he loves and values on trial—including his own life. It's a book that lays bare a shocking world of betrayal and murder, as well as the hidden depths of the human heart. And it will hold you and haunt you...long after you have reached its shattering conclusion.

forgot how good this was

I re-read this in preparation to read his new sequel. Read it last when it first came out - totally forgot that this man can really write. Even knowing the ending, I was absolutely riveted. He turns a beautiful phrase and really has characters you feel you know. Wonderful narration too. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Riveting

This book kept my interest so much that I listened to it straight through. I could listen to the words of Turow forever. He knows how to tell a story and keep you on the edge of your seat. I can't wait to listen to the next one! I definitely recommend it.

Great Legal Thriller

Overall a great book. This was my first introduction to Scott Turow which I really enjoyed. There were many characters, good and bad. It took some work to finally figure out who was who. Then midstream some would change sides. I enjoyed the depth the writer would go to keep me involved. The description of the characters was outstanding and with the audio involved I had really great visual images of everyone. Great visual images reached throughout the book. The story line was great and never slow or got mundane. The story kept moving with the guilty or innocent changing places. I loved the book and the audio was just the icing on a very big cake.

Edward Herrmann was outstanding with the delivery of the story

Captivating

It has been years since I read a Scott Turow book. Now, I remember why he was one of my favorite authors.

The book is well written. The characters are interesting and the plot twists and turns in unexpected ways. The ending would be a surprise to many. The courtroom action kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this book.

The book is fifteen hours and thirty-four minutes. Edward Herrmann does an excellent job narrating the book. Herrmann (1943-2014) was a well-known narrator of the history channel and audiobooks. He was an actor and famous for his portrayal of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Great courtroom thriller; really great narration!

This is Scott Turow's first book in what I understand will become a long line of good legal mysteries. Can't think what to say about this book that hasn't already been said by everyone else. It's old now (written in 1987) but I am just getting started on his books, which I had always heard were wonderful thrillers but somehow missed reading or seeing the films. This did not disappoint in any way, and didn't lack anything for being slightly ahead of cell phones and electronics, which have revolutionized mystery books forever. In fact, I rather prefer the books that are still pre-computerized and rely on old fashioned ingenuity.

Rusty Sabich is a prosecutor in a mid-west state who is also working to try to get his boss re-elected. When that doesn't happen, and Nico Della Guardia wins the election, he realizes that things will change. But he had not banked on a colleague getting murdered, and himself getting charged with it. A great deal of the book takes place during the trial, and is quite interesting with lots of twists, turns and surprises. The story moves well, and even though I had assumed some things about the ending, I actually had not figured it out.

This book has similarities to the exciting page-turner John Grishom style of writing, but I believe it preceded those, so this may be the trend-setter here for a lot more subsequently done in similar style. I must say a little about the narrator. I found his ability to do voices to be superb! He shifted back and forth between a lot of different people and it was always clear who was speaking. He did a particularly good job with the voice of Sandy Stern, very light, gentle, yet assertive in the courtroom. If you are like me, one of the dozen or so people on the planet who missed the book or movie of "Presumed Innocent," I can strongly recommend this book. I really enjoyed listening to it!

One of the most deftly written books that I’ve read

Not a fast paced story (for the genre). It moves in a languorous way.
I love a look behind the scenes into the justice system, including the long periods of “hurry up, and wait”, and this delivers.
The narration was wonderfully suited.

It’s a keeper.

Beautifully constructed.

Not out of date. This story still stands as a brilliantly developed court room story.

Worth the Credit

Turow did a great job keeping us guessing throughout the story. I thought the plot twists were great, and I felt myself rooting for the main character. Great, interesting read that is worth a credit.

Brilliant narration!

What does Edward Herrmann bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Edward Herrmann reads aloud in the manner that I read silently. He brings more than a change in vocal style or cadence to each character and rather is actually *playing* the role. That's quite rare. He is an extraordinarily talented performer.
