In the unbearable heat of another sultry Washington, D.C., summer, a serial killer is on the loose. Dr. Tess Court, one of the capital’s most successful psychiatrists, wants nothing to do with the case—until the police convince her to lend a hand to the lead investigator, legendary ladies’ man Detective Ben Paris. Publisher's summary
Dallas's friend, Chief Medical Examiner Morris, had started a serious relationship with Coltraine, and from all accounts the two were headed for a happy future together. But someone has put an end to all that. After breaking the news to Morris, Eve starts questioning everyone, including Coltraine's squad, informants, and neighbors, while Eve's husband, Roarke, digs into computer data on the dead woman's life back in Atlanta. To their shock, they discover a connection between this case and their own painful, shadowy pasts.
The truth will need to be uncovered one layer at a time, starting with the box that arrives at Cop Central addressed to Eve, containing Coltraine's guns, badge, and a note from her killer: "You can have them back. Maybe someday soon, I'll be sending yours to somebody else." But Eve Dallas doesn't take too kindly to personal threats, and she is going to break this case, whatever it takes. And that's a promise.

Great story!
When Eve Dallas is called to a possible murder scene in a basement of an apartment building, it’s a shock to her that she knows the victim. Even worse, the victim is Dr Morris girlfriend Amaryllis, a fellow cop. As Eve and her team begin investigating they are led to Alex Ricker, whose father Eve had put away for life in prison off planet. Max Ricker is the kind to take revenge, but how did he get to the cop to kill her when the prison shows no communication to Earth by him? Meanwhile, Eve is hosting Louise Dematto’s bridal shower while Roarke takes the bachelor party for Charles to Vegas. Great storyline and excellent narration!

Another great book
When I saw that J.D. Robb had a new book coming out I could not wait. I saved a credit specifically to get this book. I am ashamed to say, I cannot get enough of the Death Series. I love all the characters and how their lives evolve. I am happy Nora is giving all the characters a chance to be the focus of the book. She still has quite a few left. I doubt I will ever get tired of this series. I wish she would come out with new ones sooner than she does. Please do not let anyone narrate these books except Susan. She does a fantastic job. Before I bought the book I made sure, she was the narrator. She is a much a part of the series as the characters in the books.

Accent
I have always enjoyed the In Death series. Truth be told I never read anything by Nora Roberts and was unaware that J. D. Robb was one of her pen names until I was hooked. This book is well written as usual and an excellent listen. That being said I have deeply enjoyed Susan Ericksen's wonderfully flexible narrating style. She has done an excellent job giving the different characters within the story a unique voice; until this book I have appreciated the fact that she has never over done Roark's accent. It seem as though she has been playing around with her interpretation of several different characters in the last few books. My thought is leave perfection alone.

All very entertaining. 28 booms now..WOW!
Hard to believe Me Roberts can keep these characters so fresh yet evolving. Sad to see Det Coltrain gone. I figured she would have made a good addition to the ongoing cast.
Then again, Ms Erickson might eventually run out of voices. 😊
BTW - I love the voice you have for Peabody!

Good book, terrible narrator
I absolutely can't stand this narrator. It ruins the book. ESPECIALLY her voice for Peabody. It's so annoying it's hard to focus on the story.

Love/Hate!
I have mixed feelings about this one. I love Morris and so it sucked to hear what he was going through. It was nice to have him as a larger part in the book. The story was entertaining. Susan Ericksen did a nice job as narrator.

Amarilis and Morris
Promises in Death is a very emotional story . 💕
The death of a main characters is always difficult and the way it was written broke my heart. It''s very well crafted and thought out as it played with my heartstrings. Enjoyed it even though it made me cry few times. 💕
Susan Ericksen did a fabulous job narrating the book.
